Absolutely amazing so far.
Woke up at 4am, finished packing, and hit the road. Got to airport at 5:30 and plane took off on time. Was in a middle seat, very large woman on my right snoring, 50-ish dude on my left playing with his genitals while maybe sleeping. Thank dog it was a short hop to Detroit. One hour layover, caught a little 48 seat jet to White plains, NY. Sat next to a great lady from NY who filled me in on how to get to the campus. Touched down 30 minutes early! Got my bag and figured I could save time and make the registration if I caught a cab, so I did. Harrowing cab ride from White Plains to Bronxville with a driver carrying on 2 conversations, one with the cab radio, one on a cell phone, while texting, and talking to me, while swerving thru construction, detours and heavy traffic in the rain. I figured I didn't get this far just to die in a cab. Dropped me off right on campus...
Registered. Then lunch. Followed by orientation and a campus tour.
First poetry workshop at 4pm until 6 with ten poets and taught by the poet Thomas Lux. As luck would have it, I was picked first and we spent 90 minutes workshopping one of my poems. It was brutal, fun, intense, enlightening, exhausting, amazing, and humbling. Wow. We get 2/3 of the class time that a graduate semester entails in just one week! I got great suggestions from everyone...
Then there was a BBQ dinner for everyone, followed by Faculty readings by 4 authors. Quite good stuff.
Now I'm off to the pub for socializing and imbibing of liquid refreshments.
Oh, and I just met DU'er hisownpetard! How cool is that?!?!?
Okay, be back in the morning with a poem thread before the day's work begins...
:hi:
