Is it fair to post this on my blog?
I wrote an entry today about my new relationship and my queer identity, than realized "Oh shit! I don't want my relatives reading this."

I typed up this disclaimer, although I haven't published it yet. Please tell me if I am being assholeish.

"After my last post, I thought it was necessary to say this.

It doesn’t apply to most of you, so sorry for the annoyance.

Are you a relative of mine, by blood, marriage, or soon-to-be marriage? Are you a family friend?

Do you read this blog?

If you do, please tell me. Send me an email or facebook message saying that you do. This applies if you read it at all, but especially if you’re a regular reader.

There will be no hard feelings (as I give out this URL fairly freely). However, I may ask you to stop reading, or at least, to not discuss my blog with me or in front of me.

I’m sorry I have to do this – I would just like to be able to write as freely as possible while avoiding awkward situations."

Is that a perfectly okay boundary to set (as I had the link to my blog up on my facebook profile, but am likely taking it down)? Or am I kind of being a jerk?

1. Not being a jerk - but I don't think it will be productive.
I don't think anyone will tell you they DO read it, knowing that if you know they do you may ask them to stop. Plus, it may be even that much more enticing to them to keep an eye on it.

I know what you mean though - I don't want my family involved in my business and they make me feel un-free to be ME. Luckily mine aren't computer/internet savvy enough to find any of my stuff. ;)

2. Do any of your relatives know about it in the first place?
I didn't see a name or anything on your blog, just your pen name there. :)

3. I had a link to it on my facebook profile
which I am likely taking down. I know one of them has read at least one entry.

4. I wouldn't do it
You are you and you're great. No need to say sorry for being you. You're only being a jerk to yourself if you apolgize. I write stuff all the time I wouldn't want my family to read -most of my published stuff, really. Be you and don't worry about it.

I can give you an example: My mom read one of my story ideas. And threw a fit. This was what it was: Maria sat across the campfire from us. From her face we could tell something bad had happened. But we were all afraid to ask.

OK, not great, but a start. There are interesting issues there.

Anyway never say sorry for being you! Write what you want!

Khash.
