Jim Reeves ***heavy sigh***
Been listening to some oldies, including a couple from Jim Reeves, Man, that man had a voice! Goodness, there are so very few who can sing as well as he could.

I don't know if I would listen to him too much nowadays because I don't care for C&W or spiritual (as in Christian spiritual) music for the most part, but maybe I would. His voice is deep, mellowing and tranquil that few have been able to come off well in a comparison.

My favorites are Welcome to My World, and He'll Have to Go, but he sang one I've never been able to find online, though I had it many years ago on an LP, called My Heart is in Rosa Rio. I found myself singing it several years ago, after about 35 years, which tells it had definitely made an impression on me.

1. The Sinatra of Country. Him and ...
my mind's gone blank...I'll think of it.

2. A couple you could be talking about:
Ray Price
Hank Williams
Charley Pride
Eddy Arnold (who died very recently)

3. Eddy Arnold.
I didn't realize he was still around.

Hank Williams is in his own category.

But Reeves and Arnold could have made it in any genre.

4. My mom was especially fond
of Arnold. She was the real fan of Country in our family. I kind of grew up with it, and as a result (at least in my life) I rebelled in my teen years and preferred listening to pop and rock. But the older singers in the Country genre would qualify for pop as it exists today, as their songs fall into the same categories as Sting, Rick Astley, Richard Marx, Lionel Richie, and such. (Yeah, I know most of them are 1980s! Last time I seriously listened to pop on the radio )

5. He'll Have to Go was my favorite. I remember when he was killed, and Patsy
Cline too. I think I was about 12

7. I was a smidge too young, at about 8.
I didn't listen to too much music of my own before 1966, when I fell in love with Mark Lindsay and The Monkees. But we still had the albums around, and I confess, I'd give anything to have some of those albums now. :)

8. That's great to have!
I still have a lot of albums, too, but the thought of taking them out and listening to them frightens me. The static and the hiss makes me glad of the methods of recording we have now, but a friend told me that some audiophiles still prefer their vinyl to CDs nowadays. I think about how perishable those records were, and how easily they got scratched, warped and destroyed from listening to them too often!

14. I don't know if I know that one
Doesn't sound familiar. Except for the few I mentioned, I don't remember a whole lot. But I'll look for it. :)

13. I did some digging
and found the album it's on! The very last album released before he died, called (appropriately enough) Moonlight and Roses. I've ordered it from Amazon. I can't wait to hear it!
