Today is my 40th birthday. What kind of debauchery should I engage in?
Keep in mind that I am still writing my thesis and preparing for my thesis defense so it will have to be sort of mile debauchery. By that I mean, no three-day benders. I am thinking half a bottle of wine and dinner with my boyfriend. He is planning something; I am not sure whether we will be going out or staying in for dinner. But what else should I do?

1. mile? or mild ?
At this pivotal time it is always interesting to look back at what your parents at this very age were doing.

2. Well crap, I can't spell even with a new keyboard
I meant mild.

I am sure my parents were drinking heavily. My dad started racing cars around that time. I don't have that much of a death wish or a midlife crisis.

16. Well I am not exactly a risk-taker.
Going in GDP uses up all my nerve.

7. Thanks.
But GDP is not my idea of a good time right now. Or ever probably. I would rather ride any number of roller coasters (which scare me to death!) than venture into GDP.

13. I never expected to meet anyone by this birthday
and I was kind of worried about it. I have spent most of the last 10 birthdays alone. And I didn't really mind but this felt like a bigger deal, although I've been so distracted by school stuff that I might have ignored it completely.

But hopefully my defense will be successful and I will have even more to celebrate next weekend.

11. OK, a two-day bender
With nude midgets, a hot tub filled with tapioca pudding, and a visit from Tommy Lee.

Nothing too out of control.

I forgot to save the receipt, and I think they're on the way.

12. The decade markers are extra special, imo
For my 40th, I did a tandem skydive from 18K feet. :woohoo:

90 seconds of freefall at 120mph!

Talk about getting "in touch with" the Present Moment! :D

It was fantastic. Not for everybody, obviously, but perfect for me and a great metaphor for leaping with Abandon into my 40's.

:toast: I wish you the very best, no matter what you decide to do with your day.

May your blessings outnumber your birthday candles, alarimer.

Make a wish!

14. I joked about going skydiving but I am not sure I have the nerve.
Later this summer when I have time, I am going to take windsurfing lessons.

Today I bought myself a new keyboard. How's that for daring? LOL

windsurfing could be fun. that's big around here.

I live in Santa Cruz....aka, "Surf City". :D

I don't surf though....wind surf, or otherwise.

22. That's really none of my business ;)
But engage in as much debauchery as much as the evening and your thesis situation will allow.

No dangerous acrobatics, and no overdoing what will make the morning a painful haze.

Aside from that, a very Happy Birthday alarimer!!

:hi:   :loveya: :pals:  :woohoo:

Yes I think I am at the age where the acrobatics take a back seat to "Will this hurt?"

24. I had a very nice evening
We went out to a steakhouse for dinner (though I didn't have steak but some really great Mahi Mahi) and then we saw Indiana Jones. Very nice night even if there were no midgets in hot tubs.

He gave me a couple of Christopher Moore Books (You Suck- perhaps an odd choice for a birthday present but we both have an odd sense of humor) and Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's childhood pal. And a pink flamingo gift set, which consists of some pieces of fencing, some fake grass and pink flamingos. Because I do not have a lawn to put the real thing on.
