40. More like there is no tolerant party.
Maybe I have realized that to be a party, there needs to be uniformity of thought which by definition excludes dissent.

42. Well in a general sense
The way the Democrats define themselves as the big tent party, or the party where everyone is welcome, etc. There seems to be a lot of people who refuse to tolerate those who are not like themselves, unless it's PC to tolerate those people.

43. I always get stuck on this argument at this point
Where do you draw the line?

If I lived in Germany in the Nazi era, should I have just tolerated the Nazis and accepted that they were different? Should we now just accept the neocons because hey, they're different?

Also, define "tolerate". Does that mean never commenting on anything about another person at all except in the most glowing and assenting tones? I think there's a difference between saying "I think that people who drive huge luxury gas guzzlers on paved streets in a location where it hardly ever snows and where the streets are immediately salted and plowed if it does snow are greedy and selfish." and actively going out to beat them up. And because the group is so specific and based on something that they chose rather than an attribute they were born with and because there's no power relationship or history of discrimination involved, you can't say that comments like that perpetuate a climate of prejudice.

Plus, if you're going to be preaching toleration and acceptance of everything, doesn't that include accepting that other people may have opinions about your choices and may state those opinions?

Also, when people go on about other people not accepting them, I usually find that it's because they can't tolerate and accept people being different than they are. Like "Oh, you drive a Prius. That automatically means that you are a "purist" and that you hate me because I drive a Hummer. If you were a good decent tolerant person who walked the walk of equality, you'd drive a Hummer too."

let's say, "rednecks" is that "rednecks" have not, to my knowledge, put millions of people into an oven. Sure, there will be psychotics among "rednecks," but there will also be psychotics among "non-rednecks."

I don't think I said anything in my OP about anyone perpetuating a climate of prejudice. However, I disagree with your statement. There isn't any significant power relationship or history of discrimitation between city dwellers and rural dwellers, but when someone who lives in a city calls a rural dweller an ignorant redneck hillbilly, well, that surely sounds like a climate of prejudice to me. Just as when that rural dweller calls city dwellers latte drinking elitest liberals. That also sounds like a climate of prejudice.

Also, may I not have opinions about other's opinions?

Lasty, I was not going on about people accepting me personally. If you'd like to know, my comment was made because of a few different threads in GDP where people were tossing around nasty comments about other people based on one small aspect of their lives. It's a behavior I see on this site quite often.
