40-42" size because my livingroom is fairly small. LCD instead of Plasma, mostly for lighting issues.
I know I want 1080P.
Beyond that, not sure what I should look for.

Brands? Stick to the Big S's (Sony, Sharp, Samsung)?

1. All my flat-panel LCDs are Westinghouse Digital
I've got a 37", 42" and 19". All have been excellent and have not given me any problems at all. I also had a 32" WD that I gave to my sister two years ago, and she hasn't had any issues with that one, either.

This is the 42" I've got (the TX-42F430S):

I have seen these at BestBuy for as little as $1,200.

2. Sony Bravia
I have a 40" Bravia (KBR IIRC). They are the best of the best. They are a little more expensive, but include all the required ports (HDMI, composite, component, video camera).

3. I have to agree w/ the Bravia..............
I fix TV's for a living and Sony makes a really good product. Once you get an idea what model you're going to buy, check yer online review sites and give a call to a local repair shop to see if they've seen that model in for repair alot.

Also, make sure you get the extended warranty. It may seem like a scam, but it really comes in handy if your set breaks a few years down the road.

5. My Dad has a 42" Samsung. Beautiful picture, lousy customer service.
I bought the kid's Dad a Sharp LCD TV/computer monitor a few years back, and it's got a lovely picture and never has given him day of trouble. They make good stuff.

6. That is pretty small. Is it for your car? Or maybe a powder room?
