BabyG Stole Home!!!
:bounce:

I think he's getting the hang of this baseball thing. His soccer running experience is paying off for the team. :bounce:

Congrats Baby Boy...even though you "hated" me earlier.

2. 15-10 (high scoring because this is the first year with kids pitching
instead of machine pitch) The pitchers are still learning control...to put it mildly. :)

He evened up the score and then they went ahead on a grand slam. It is so much fun to be back at the ballfields.

3. That's so cool.
How old is he again?

We get a lot of Little League games called into our paper and yes, all the scores are high-scoring...it takes awhile to master pitching.

And yes, I loved being at the ballfield. I miss playing. Little League and Babe Ruth League was the best time I ever had. My teams were always really good. And not to brag too much but I was a pretty damn good second baseman! :bounce:

:) :hi:

5. He is 9. His coach told him today that he is doing a great job
at first and that he can't afford to cycle him out anymore. It helps that James is 5 feet tall at 9 and can stretch pretty well. The shortest kid is about 3 feet 4 inches and James and another boy are the biggest at 5 feet. The other boy rotates between 3rd (which I think is where he should be) and catcher (which is where he wants to be). It is fun to see them pick up on the fundamentals. :) I bet you were awesome.

9. Wow, he's pretty tall for his age
It makes sense that he is at first. Does he like playing first?

Yeah, I was really good defensively. I made contact with the ball, and rarely struck out, but because I've been a midget my whole life the ball never went that far. It was ok in Little League because I got usually always beat the throws (I used to be pretty quick back in the day) but it hurt me in Babe Ruth playing on the bigger field. A lot of the infield hits I got in LL, turned into easy outs in BR. I was also a very good bunter.

Ok, enough about me! Back to that future New York Yankee, BabyG! :bounce:

10. I liked hearing about you, as well.
He is very tall for his age, but so was his dad. But then, when MrG turned about 14 (at 6 feet) he stopped growing. I imagine much the same will happen with his son.

BabyG loves playing first. They wanted him to pitch (left handed and all) but, after watching how fans treat Tigers pitching, he's afraid to. :)

13. Oh, a southpaw.
BabyG could have a very good future in the sport as long as he wants to continue playing. I could see why they wanted him to pitch but he shouldn't be forced right now. He may come to the point where he wants to pitch. Right now, it's all about him enjoying himself and learning the rules of the game.

14. He's got great arm strength, but I want him to have fun, first.
Edited on Wed May-28-08 10:24 AM by MrsGrumpy
My father is dying for him to pitch, but I just want him to enjoy the game. No pressure.

...and he bats right handed so my dad thinks it would be great to get him switch hitting. :eyes: Fathers...he's been wanting a sports hero in the family his whole adult life.

:P ;) :) He'll be a gold mine! :) :P ;)

I'll be his agent!

As long as he has fun. That's the main goal right now.

7. Reminds me of my shining (?) moment on the mound in intramural softball
the "Free Press", a joint venture of the weekly paper and radio station, upset the heavily favored YMCA team (our college was renting overflow space at the Y) by about that same score, with 10 of our runs coming in one inning. Afterward a dejected Y player was quoted, "Man, we just palsied out in that one inning."

At the plate (hell no, no DH!)? I collected an RBI on a, er, um, foul pop to shallow left. :eyes:

He evened up the score and then they went ahead on a grand slam.

Something else must have happened in between, because once he stole home, the bases were no longer loaded...

8. It was indeed the next inning that they scored the rest of their runs.
3 walks (pitching again) and then Enzo, our star batter, smacked one.

11. The best days of my son's life when he was younger..
He was a pitcher, and we went to all his games. He's now 26, and regretting not doing more after high school, he loved the game so much.

16. It's fun, isn't it?
I grew up watching my brother's play. We missed my brother's one and only Grand Slam because my father was late from work. :(

The funny thing is that he plays for the A's. My brother, his uncle, played for the A's as a youngster. Different league though.

 They look similar in their uniforms...

Bring him out to the East Coast, I'll take him to a Yankee game and it'll be all over from there.

Now pitching, No. 35. BabyG, pitching. (In the best Bob Sheppard voice)

25. Hey Mrs. G---
A guy called his Little League game into the paper today.

Final score

31-6.

Some kid stole 10 bases......yeah, ok, way to pad those stats...probably six of them were passed balls or wild pitches.

:hi: I love your guts. :hi:
