3. There is an emo song about my break-up with an ex-girlfriend.
Not telling what song (or band) for her privacy...the song is much more about her than me.

It wasn't a famous or popular song, but the CD sold well and the band is somewhat mainstream although a little dark.

26. I attended his Stan Kenton Jazz Festivals when I was in high school
Edited on Wed May-21-08 05:27 PM by KansDem
Summers of 1969 and 1970 at the University of Redlands, California.

The first summer I took "Basic Improvisation." There were a couple dozen of us in there (an auditorium) and it was taught "team-teaching" style by a couple of his band members. At one point, they called about six of us up front to jam for the class. I was one of the students selected. There was a rhythm section and about the time we were selected and walking up front, Kenton came in the sat down at the piano.

I think it was all spontaneous, but each of us took a couple of rides comped by the rhythm section with Kenton at the piano!

Quite a thrill for a 16-year-old saxophonist! :D

on edit: I got Cannonball Adderley's autograph when I went up to see him and his quintet at Shelley's Manne-Hole in Hollywood the summer before. I still have it, too.

I'll bet your autographs of Kenton and Ferguson bring back memories!

Though I'm envious you got to play with him! I only got to see Kenton perform the one time, though I saw Ferguson several times over the years - always did a great show.

87. Sweet. I used to jam with Sandy MacIntyre in Toronto.
Missed playing with Ashley MacIsaac by *this much* because I went home early one night. Now that I'm in WV I mostly noodle around by myself because most people play bluegrass and I just don't have the speed for it.

Irish harp's a toughy. Are you teaching yourself or taking lessons?

89. Self-taught
with the help of Sylvia Woods' books (and others). I'm at the point that I can jam somewhat without music. Now, if I could sing or talk at the same time as I play the harp, I'd be sportin'.

I know what you mean about bluegrass. I've never been able to get a grip on the hokum shuffle.

I'm sure you've heard Alasdair Fraser. He's my absolute favorite Scottish fiddler. And Martin Hayes for Irish.

Not much of a Scottish fan (too classically-oriented), but Alasdair Fraser is exceptionally talented. I don't know Martin Hayes.

I twiddled a bit with bluegrass mandolin for a while, but I don't have one right now, so I'm pretty rusty.

30. I once observed dolphins using a computer
in a lab at Sea Life Park on O'ahu. The computer was equipped with a special touch screen, which the dolphins activated by touching their rostrums ("beaks") to a particular quadrant of the screen, sort of like giant icons.

The killer app in the cetacean world? Video clips of other dolphins, especially those that the subjects knew (they get rotated from tank to tank rather frequently). Hmmm... maybe I could make my brazillions with a MySpace or Facebook clone for dolphins?

One hour a week during the Fall semester, two hours a week during the Spring. The radio station was right on campus in a building by dad actually used to work in, and we only had a broadcast range of four miles - seven or eight on a good day. Still, they actually let me get on the radio, talk, and play music.

The name of the show was "JG's Jazz, Blues, and Swing Hour," and according to the station manager, it was one of the top three shows on the station.

103. I would love to go sometime
Back in the '60s, some cousins of mine went to my grandmother's hometown (Vittoria) and found the little building that used to house her father's corner store (I think they lived above it). I'd love to see all the towns my grandparents came from (Vittoria, Caltanisetta, Sara da Falco--and I think one of my grandparents came from Palermo--not so small).

My grandparents came through Ellis Island as well. I looked up the information on the Ellis Island site a while ago--found the ships they came on and everything. It was way cool. One of my grandmother's sisters failed the health test at Ellis Island (glaucoma, I think) and went to South America, so I have relatives I've never met there as well.

58. I relax by cleaning and cooking
and I was raised 50's style. The man is King of the house, works outside the home and does no housework/cooking. Still believe it is true, no matter if both work full time. Yea, blast me now, I can take it lol

I also never held a job outside of the home until I was 34. I was the mom who baked cookies for after school, had a hot dinner on the table at 6 sharp, complete with cloth napkins, and I loved every minute of it.

63. that's true
Aperture is much more important than (focal) length. Unless you are taking photographs, length is pretty unimportant.

80. Two factoids for the price of one:
I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of the Republican Party. (Plagiarized from many a McCarthy hearings witness)

I am obsessed with old-time radio shows and movies (1935-1945).

Cheers, everyone.

85. Lets see
I have been on both TV and Radio...

I have the home address and phone number of a former Michigan state senator/congressman who was on the U of Michigan Deans Advisory Council, and had to use it once to get his help with an obstinate faculty member. I was also on the local news with him commenting on a proposal in the state house that would limit a particular type of funding/scholarship money for students. After that press conference is when he gave me his contact info and told me that if I ever needed help at school, he was on the deans advisory committee and I should give him a call...:P

I have jumped out of a variety of airplanes and helicopters.
