A Question for Winos...
OK, so we got some Luna Di Luna the other night and we tried it tonight. It's a very light color, beautiful, actually. And the bottle is just as pretty. It's a mix of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigiot. It's good, but it tastes kind of...Cheesy. Anyone else notice that wine is weird?
Oh, and Merlot tastes like meat. What the fuck is that about?

2. I love the blush stuff that comes in the box....
...I just can't remember the brand. It's got a big wine glass on the side.

3. Da Franz
or possibly Peter Vella. Either way, it's the most efficient way to get a group of people drunk.

4. Merlot tastes like meat? Uh,
I've always thought of it as a mellow, smooth, dry-with-a-sweet-finish taste, myself. Or sweet with a dry finish, what the fuck do I know? But meat? No, no. That's just weird.

6. I have a bit of a strange pallet.
But we tried it, and I actually spit it back into the glass. It was like drinking meat.

9. Okay.
My husband sometimes finds wines he describes as tasting like "dirt." He likes them. *shrug* Tutti gusti son gusti!

I am not a huge wine drinker but it's not a bad wine.

My response has nothing to do with your OP. I just wanted to say hello! :)

7. Concha y Toro=our house wine
$6.50 at Costco. The red is excellent. The white is a tad on the sweet side.

10. if it is "cheesy" or tastes like "meat" you may have had
corked bottles. Or perhaps you have an odd palate.... :P

There are plenty of better wines out there on par as far as price as the Luna di Luna.

If you can locate Terra Andina (chilean) in your area, they should retail for about the same price and are very good quality. If you can isolate what it is you like in a wine, it is easier to find ones you will surely prefer. For example, do you prefer sweet or dry? Once you determine that, all the doors open.

12. You're supposed to have Merlot with meat
Maybe you misread the directions.

(Trader Joes has the best selection of $5 to $10 wines. Check 'em out.)

Oh, and Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio is kinda a weird blend. Don't know what to say about that.

14. Just as important the wine itself
is the food it is paired with. No matter how good the wine, if it is paired incorrectly then the palate cannot enjoy the full flavor of the wine. Red wine, like red meat, has more intense flavors and aromas, with just a hint of sweetness. White meat and fish are best paired with lighter wines because it prevents either from dominating the palate.

15. Also, don't expect a cheapo wine to wow you...
or taste particularly great. Cheap wines are grown from vineyards made for volume, not quality. If you enjoy wine, I'd suggest spending a few bucks more and buy a $20-30 bottle. It may not seem like a big difference, but I have noticed from personal experience that price is important. Now, if you just wanna get drunk or enjoy a cheap glass, go with something in the $10-15 range. And avoid boxed or screw-cap wine...

16. Nothing wrong with screw-caps
All wine from New Zealand has screw-caps, and whilst that includes plenty of plonk it also includes some perfectly decent wine.
