I'm going MAD over here--have to do everything so awkwardly to avoid messing them up.

This will definitely NOT be a regular experience in my life.

2. Exactly.
Tonight is prom--the ONLY reason why I'm putting up with this shit. And makeup...errrrrrrgh. Mascara I'm all right with, but just about everything else makes me crazy. Special occasions only.

I suck at being a girly-girl. :D

3. i suck at it too
have fun at prom! i homeschool so i don't have one, but a friend asked me to go with them and i said thanks but no thanks. don't think i'd fit in much at prom at our town's highschool.

oh and mascara is the worst! i never ever wear it because it clumps up my eye lashes and gets in my eyes. ick.

4. Hahaha. Ohhh man.
:)

Mascara actually works well on me, probably because my eyelashes are already absurdly long ("the kind of eyelashes usually wasted on a boy," my mom says), so they just don't seem to clump very much. :D Mascara is also easy to do, and you don't really have to worry about colors. I suck at colors--I'm not visually artistic in the least. So eyeshadow and lipstick and shades of blush I really, really suck at--I never know what the hell to do. Not to mention my fine motor control is suspect.

Yes, I'm a great primper.

:D

5. mine are long too.. but the problem lies in that they are thick
so the mascara sort of just clumps them up. then again i've only tried twice or so and i just wiped it off and gave up.

as long as you don't use 80's makeup colors i think you'll be fine.

6. If your eyelashes are already long and thick... then why did you need mascara in the first place?
:P

18. Here's what colors to get...
From top to bottom:

Eye shadow: The safe, subtle choice is medium brown on your lids, brown two shades darker in your creases and a real light brown on your browbones.

Blush: Hold your right thumb in your left hand so your left thumb is touching your right thumbnail, and squeeze real gently. The end of your thumb will get a little bit reddish. That's your blush shade.

Lipstick: Since you're young and pretty, I think a muted rose would be great on you.

That should get you started.

7. I never paint my fingernails
Except maybe a clear coat. If I do a color, I'm bound to chip it the next day (or same day) and then I have to take it all off. Too much work.

Now, I do try and paint my toenails during the summer, I should do that this weekend. :)

8. The solution...
get the crackly kind. So it's s'posed to look all chipped and stuff. :)

What it does is it shrinks as it dries, so it ends up with little cracks everywhere. That way you put one flat color underneath, and another layer of the crackly kind on top (usually black or some neutral color for contrast.) and it cracks and shows the color through.

9. I get the vinyl-coated nails
They blend into the paneling and require a lot less maintenance.

10. I sometimes paint my toenails
Yeah the only guy on DU who does - found this really cool metallic nail polish. But it's a major bitch - twisting yourself up so you can do it and see what you're doing and get it right. I only do it when I'm getting my freak on :)

Back in my goth days my fingernails were always painted black, but that was years ago.

Khash.

12. I use a nail buffer, not polish - when I even bother
I like to garden. Digging in dirt, long fingernails and nail polish just don't mix very well.

Even so, a manicure and pedicure is a treat - you don't have to get polish, tho. they will also just buff your nails.

15. A nail buffer is great
I've also used one of those white pencils under my nails if I'm trying to pretty things up. ;)

14. Yeah, I never paint mine.
Mostly because I play guitar, but I'm sure they'd be chipped to hell anyway within a day, regardless.

16. That, and you have to constantly trim 'em when you're a string player
Edited on Sat May-17-08 06:26 PM by DarkTirade
so at the very least the edges would be all screwy from that.

I didn't know you played guitar too. I don't know if it works for girls as well as guys, but it's always been a good way to get chicks for me. :P Seriously, both of my 'serious' relationships were with girls who were originally attracted to me mostly because I'm a guitarist.

17. Wrap sandpaper around the head of the hammer before hitting them.
The grit makes it easier for the hammer to stay squarely on the nail head.

Wha?

19. Sometimes I see women with those inch-long nails...
Especially the ones doing work like working at as a cashier, and I wonder how and why they do it. I chip or break a nail every other day. I can't imagine wearing long nails like that doing the stuff I do!
