Chicago represents the American "can-do" spirit better than any other city
Edited on Fri May-16-08 06:43 PM by Taverner
And this is coming from a Californian - who loves his State and is never leaving.

Chicago has Wrigley Stadium. Who cares that the Cubs suck year after year, with some good years getting in there, but the teams own self destructive identity always kills them at the worst possible moment.

Wrigley is paradise for Baseball. You don't have overpriced corporations selling you stuff - you have some dude grilling a hot dog and fresh onions on a steel grill. It has ivy and brick all over the place. It has no jumbotrons, no retractable roof, no AC, no heating, no lasers. It's a brick wall with baseball inside. Yet they sell out every game. Shit, you can even go to a nearby bar and buy a drink, sit on the roof and watch the game. That's love of the game - that's the Baseball that a billion Costner movies can't replace.

Chicago has a million museums. Art is everywhere. Science is everywhere. University of Chicago is there. Should I go on?

And then, my favorite part, is the breweries. They have not one, but three mind-bending, nectar-serving, and Oxford-comma'ing Breweries. Goose Island is in Chicago. Flossmoor Station is in Chicago. And Three Floyds (yeah, it's in Indiana, but it's on the border, in a Chicagoland suburb) is in Chicago.

They took a swamp, worse than Seattle, and turned it into paradise. And when the sideways rain, 35MPH Winds, and Snow Flurries came, they said "fuck it" and built it anyway.

1. I love Chicago
I've lived everywhere, and Chicago is still my favorite city. Not many people know how great it is, though, which is, I think, good.

3. Sweet
I can't wait to go back to Wrigley.

I haven't been in a while - and my son is 5 now. Perhaps the right time to take him?

5. My dad started taking us there before I can even remember.
It was a tradition for him ever since he was at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. My sisters and I manage to make it back there every couple of years even though our parents are gone. One sister lives in Philadelphia, one in Ft. Wayne and I'm in Indianapolis.

I've heard some disturbing things lately about the condition of Wrigley. I hope that they can keep it viable. It is without a doubt the best place to see a ball game.

6. And it's as Blue as Blue can be
in fact, not a single statewide repuke official left in all of Illinois. Hell, in Chi-town, even dead people vote Dem! :P

Plus, it's the (present-day) home of our 44th President, Barack Obama!

8. Where is this Wrigley Stadium of which you speak?
Not that far from my old place on the North Side, at 1060 W. Addison, stands Wrigley Field -- but I never heard of any "Wrigley Stadium".

10. You wouldn't have enjoyed it so much this past winter. But today definitely was
a gorgeous day. And when the weather is fine, Chicago is a fabulous city. I'm especially fond of my neighborhood.
