I can't imagine anyone NOT liking them, but hell, it's a copycat thread.

1. Which Iteration?
If we are talking 1979 Van Halen then I'm with you but 1991 is a whole other story...

8. Well, I admit that I kinda missed Mikey at the concert in December
But apparently he can't remove his head from Hagar's Bush loving Republican ass :(

Wolfie's not bad. How could he be.... it's genetic!

9. It's just not Van Halen without MA.
Maybe if they toured as Van Halen and Son or something.

11. At least the most important elements of the band are once again intact
The creative fire that produced 6 albums worth of the greatest rock n roll in history.....

30. yeah, Anthony made his choice.
And what's the deal with him jamming with Hagar and Satriani (Joe, how could you?).

Imagine what kind of message that sent though Ed's grudgedrunk head. Kinda like DLR going off and hiring Vai and Sheehan, but MA is no Sheehan, or DLR for that matter.

MA has always been the star trek redshirt in the band.

To invoke Reggie Jackson, DLR or Hagar were the straw that stirred the drink.

Ed was the drink, the glass, and the coaster.

3. Guitar solo in the middle of a synth pop song = stupid
Yeah, I'm talking about "Jump." I heard it on the bus a few days ago and was like "What the hell?"

Otherwise, I just really don't like that style of music in general.

12. Actually, it was the synthesizer that was the stupid part
I hated "Jump" first time I heard it (24 years ago). It grew on me eventually, kinda like a bad wart. But I never did like the other synth pop song on that album "I'll Wait". Still don't.

13. I like Van Halen.
Liked them pre-Hagar and with Hagar. Thought they "evolved" with the musical times. That said, I can't, however, forgive the Michael Anthony fiasco. That was wrong. Sort of like AC/DC tossing Malcolm Young so L'il Angus could play rhythm. Absolute rubbish.

18. Brian Johnson would probably step aside.
He seems like an honorable guy. If he didn't...well, the Young boys did love Bon. I'm pretty sure they'd ask Brian to step aside.

17. I enjoyed early Van Halen but I have sort of moved on past that genre
of music.
I am over about 90% of the same 50 songs played in heavy rotation on classic rock stations as if there were no other songs ever written.
Specially bands who are still producing shitty music as if it were still the 80-90's.
I guess I am just to old.

19. Because Eddie is a dick
I find it hard to believe that Roth, Hagar and Anthony were all at fault, a lot of that has to lay on Eddie. Asshole can't keep a band together even when they're sounding great and selling tons of records. I sure hope Mikey didn't get screwed financially when they shoved him out of the band.

22. No doubt that Eddie has been to blame for a lot of the shit
The stories Hagar was telling in 1996 were very similar to what Dave said 10 years earlier. Gary Cherone didn't really comment when he got sacked from the band, but he did have songs on his next album called "Left for Dead" and "Thanks for Nothing", so interpret that however you want.

There are rumors that the rift between Mike Anthony and the Van Halen brothers began when Mike didn't show up for Mama Van Halen's funeral, or even call the brothers with his condolences. Both Roth and Hagar did, though neither was in the band at the time.

I'm guessing Eddie's got some deep seeded "issues" that have nothing to do with the band, which would also have a lot to do with his substance abuse problems. He can be a trainwreck of a human being, but when he's "on", damn he can still play that guitar.

20. Never crazy about them, but I enjoyed both Old Halen and Van Hagar...
but it was a low down dirty trick to kick out Michael Anthony

They are no AC/DC, but they are fun big dumb rock

26. boring music.
they have just never appealed to me - seems there is no melody, or harmony, just screeching guitars and guys straining their meager vocal capacity so hard it sounds as if they're about to herniate themselves.

But, to each his own. Just don't force me to listen to them.

27. David Lee Roth can't sing. Stupid songs. Van Hagar was worse.
Eddie's virtuoso guitar playing basically went to waste. Sure they had a few good songs on the early albums but mostly they were banal, KISS level mediocrity. 1984 really was the end when they wimped out with the keyboards.

29. I still like them, but I am pissed off at the fact that they tossed away Michael Anthony
he is a big part of Van Halen....just for Eddies son ( I'm confused...is that the real reason for it )?

I love their earlier stuff, the stuff I grew up listening to ( or my older brother listened to, religiously ) I still listened to it with him :D I never did like the Sammy Hagar years, though....something about them really softened up, and didn't have quite the same feel as before him. It started to get all mushy and shit...I don't know. With Diamond Dave, it was all about rock, but with Sammy it was all mushy and sentimental...

or better than them and yet they got all the pub, and as a result, lots of record sales. You asked.
