1. What rules?
Guess I'm displaying my ignorance...maybe I should go over to GD and read a bit.

5. okay, read them--NEITHER!
I think some rules would be good, as there is a lot of useless discussion/unthoughtout stuff over there. But sheesh, no capitalization/punctuation? Seems a bit persnickity. And the 5-sentence min.--maybe a good recommendation, but what if someone wrote 4 good sentences and then had nothing else to say?

8. You could write...
"For my 5th sentence, I'd like to state that I have nothing further to add."

:-)

12. end it with "So there."
or "In accordance with prophecy".

And the rule isn't "no capitalization/no punctuation" - it's no ALL CAPS and no excessive punctuation!!!!!!!!!

There's a mighty big difference.

And do we really think Skinner's so anal he'll actually count sentences? I sure don't.

I thought only rightwingers were that beholden to the letter of the law.

2. Ehhh
I mostly hang out in the Lounge, anyway, so it's not that big a deal for me.

3. My opinion is irrelevant. I trust Skinner.
Skinner has decided, they're in place, and they're temporary. I say give 'em a chance and trust that Skinner knows better than us what he's doing, and that if they don't work, trust Skinner enough to change 'em. This soon in the game, criticism is just arrogant and premature. And maybe even immature.

7. I agree
Skinner makes the rules and he has ALWAYS been EXCEPTIONALLY FAIR! We are guests in the house of DU - Skinner's house.

11. Precisely.
This is not a public forum. Skinner et al host this site, pay for the hardware, bandwidth, etc. They can do whatever they want. If it ruins the forum and causes people to leave, then that's what will happen.

4. peachy keen
I come to DU, to read the news and opinions on politics. Granted people must come up for air every now and then, and talk about other things. But when good discussions keep getting knocked off the page because of nonsense topics... well, its about time.

9. I think the rules are good
The point of these boards is discussion, after all. Civilized discussion. A mindless post, bristling with bad language, is simply a turn-off. If want those, I could visit the yahoo discussion sites which seem to be the habitat of neaderthal right-wingers whose idea of bright wit is calling names.

10. Nothing wrong with trying out some rules. If they work, keep 'em.

Do we come here to discuss issues, or scream epithets at each other?
