Uff da! 'Father Kills Son in Hunting Accident After Mistaking Him for Turkey'
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351877,00.html

'BELLE PLAINE, Minn. — The Sibley County Sheriff says that a man who accidentally shot and killed his 9-year-old son while they were hunting apparently mistook the boy for a turkey.

Sheriff Bruce Ponath says that Anthony Klaseus of Belle Plaine and his son Hunter were hunting turkey about three miles west of Belle Plaine around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when Klaseus shot his son in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun.

Klaseus dialed 911 on his cell phone. Emergency responders pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

"He was absolutely panicked. That would be an understatement," Ponath said. "Very distraught."

Ponath said the shooting was an accident but that his department is continuing to investigate the circumstances.'

Now this is sad, but the son's name made me laugh and I feel bad.

7. In the Lounge, yes.
I double-checked to make sure I was indeed in the Lounge. Out in GD or LBN, no, I wouldn't.

Poor kid. :(

3. That man is going to need years of therapy.
:(

I feel so bad for him and his whole family. I can't imagine going though life knowing that I'd killed my own child. :(

6. Best Response
so far.
When you feel sorry for yourself and can't
be grateful for what you have, try thinking
about how much worse it is for most of humanity in general.

9. Just another reason I don't go hunting.....
...Outside of the obvious ethical issues of killing an innocent animal, I wouldn't want to have to worry about some hunter "mistaking" me for his prey.

I'm sure the poor boys father will live in his own personal hell now, and that is horrible. But it never had to happen.

you shoot "anything that moves."

15. As much as I hate to agree with Temeah, I agree with Temeah
The article describes a tragic accident in which an innocent boy was killed. There is nothing funny about it.

22. Minnesota:
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through
l8 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food
will swim by, you might live in Minnesota.

If you're proud that your state makes the national news 96 nights each year because International Falls is the coldest spot in the nation, you might live in Minnesota.

If you have ever refused to buy something because it's "too spendy", you might live in Minnesota.

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from November through March, you might live in Minnesota.

If someone in a store offers you assistance, and they don't work there, you might live in Minnesota.

If your dad's suntan stops at a line curving around the middle of his forehead, you might live in Minnesota.

If you have worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you might live in Minnesota.

If your town has an equal number of bars and churches, you might live in Minnesota.

If you know how to say Wayzata, Mahtomedi, Edina and Shakopee, you might live in Minnesota.

If you think that ketchup is a little too spicy, you might live in Minnesota.

"Vacation" means going up north past Brainerd for the weekend.

You measure distance in hours.

You know several people who have hit deer more than once.

You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and back again.

You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.

You see people wearing hunting clothes at social events.

You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

You think of the major food groups as beer, fish, and venison.

You carry jumper cables in your car and your girlfriend (wife) knows how to use them.

There are 7 empty cars running in the parking lot at Mill's Fleet Farm at any given time.

You design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.

You know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.

You can identify a southern or eastern accent.

You consider Minneapolis exotic.

Your idea of creative landscaping is a statue of a deer next to your blue spruce.

Down South to you means Iowa.

A brat is something you eat.

You go out to fish fry every Friday.

You find 0 degrees "a little chilly."

 For a Minnesotan, anyway! :hi:

23. LOL OMG SO TRUE, ALL OF IT
I only lived there for a short time in the very southeastern corner (where my dad was from) - the first thing that comes to mind is the COLD. IT WAS FUGGIN COLD!!! Also, I loved it when a Minnesotan told me "IOWA" stood for "IDIOTS OUT WALKING ABOUT". :rof:

you might live in Minnesota!"

My best friend and colleague in Northern Iowa (which is, after all, suburban Minnesota) and I used to eat at the Italian restaurant when we didn't want to be interrupted by parishioners. Our parishioners, the vast majority of whom were Norwegian, wouldn't eat Italian food, because it was too spicy!!

26. Whenever my dad took me hunting when I was younger, he made sure I wore bright orange ...
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 12:41 AM by primate1
So that there would be no mistaking me for anything but me. He also made sure that I was standing behind him before he would even consider pulling the trigger. A little caution and it would have done so much in this situation, it is really sad.
