Hey, all! I'm back with my brand new system -- a gen-u-wine Intel 2.6 GHz processor/mobo combo with 800MB of onboard memory, 1 GB of RAM, a starchy new OS (Win XP, the eXtra Patronizing Interface -- can't wait to get my Linux partition up and running, now that I have Worthy Hardware on which to run it!), a CD-R/W/DVD-R, and a way cool case with a door on the front that (lo and behold!) isn't bent, so I can actually (will wonders never cease!) shut it so it runs fairly quietly, despite having four or five fans going...
XP takes a *LOT* of customization before it starts to look like a Real Computer. I *seriously* don't like those candy-coloured buttons and those cutesy little cartoony icons (and I have the Professional Edition -- what were they thinking?!). They remind me of Zip airline livery -- ought to be cited for moving taste violations.
I finally got all my software, e-mail, internet, and (most importantly) DU, Slashdot, and chat program logins/passwords up and running, so I can actually post again!
Even better news -- I got called back for a second interview with that aviation software company in Waterloo!
The only bad news is, my fiance actually has a *burst fracture* of his T-6, and is going to the orthopedist (at home in NY :( ) in ten minutes. They *may* still decide to do emergency surgery; they may not. (On the upside, we used my new computer to look at the CD-ROM of his CAT-scans, way cool...)
