I just cannot get motivated to do my classwork for the week
I'm working on my Master's degree, and I only have this class (History and Philosophy of Music Education) and one more (Music Analytical Techniques)to graduate.

But this week, my prof has kinda played games with me a bit - giving assignments back to us with added requirements - not accepting my final project proposal, telling me I'll have to resubmit several times before he'll approve it...

Anyway - I'm just not too excited about jumping into it this week. I want to drop the class and forget about the master's degree, but I know I'll regret it if I do.

Any motivation tips?

1. From a doctoral student:
Grind it out, have done with it, and get the diploma. It isn't about the prof, it's about getting the degree for YOU.

Sorry I can't find anything more motivating, but you're just going to have to grind it out. That's, unfortunately, grad school.

Come on, you want the diploma, huh? Huh? Think about how pretty it will look on your wall and how good it will look on your resume!

You can do it. Just forget about the prof being an ass and do it for you. You'll get "bosses" like this anywhere, not just in school.

2. Thanks for the encouragement
I had planned on doing doctoral work... but I think I'm going to put in a few more years of teaching, then quit teaching for a while to do my doctoral degree.

At least now I'm dressed and sitting in the office with my readings in front of me. When I posted earlier I was on the couch in my pajamas watching 'Night Court' reruns... so I've made some progress at least.

Its just a couple more hours of work, and then I'm caught up for another week.

What's your degree in? I'm working on a Master of Music Education.

4. I took 13 years off between undergrad and grad school
and I think it was a good idea. Besides getting to get rid of one round of student debt before taking on another, I was positive it was the right thing for me when I made the decision.

I'm in Parks and Recreation, which is essentially sociology with trees. ;) I have one more semester of coursework, then on to the dreaded comps, then dissertating full-time.

I have an undergrad minor in Early Music Performance (vocal), BTW. That's some difficult stuff you do (counterpoint -- ACK!). Hang in there! You'll make it!

If you've ever heard of these folks from the 60s called Free Design. 4 siblings. I've only heard of them recently in their internet resurgence of sorts. Sorry if you find it grating or anything. My wife says Raindrops Keep Falling reminds her of being in an elevator in a mental institution.

As far as school goes, keep pressing on. Some teachers like to throw their weight around, but that's just part of the drill, I'd say. And even if the demands seem unreasonable, hopefully there is extra content involved, i.e. not some silly formatting/cosmetic concerns but something you don't mind learning about too awfully much.

5. I haven't heard of them
They are a bit of the classic 1960's folk-rock sound, crossed with a bit of vocal jazz... Very cool...
