How do I find my first post since search only goes back to 2005?

I need Oct 2004.

1. I think there is an option to search the archives.

2. Those only let me go back to 2005, and says no posts.

I've tried searching "a", "the" "and" and varied words, but it says nothing.

4. All the pre-2005 post are archived by a subcontractor.

The RNC has those I believe.
