Did you ever have a bicycle named Silver?
I had a bicycle named 'Silver' long before King wrote
about his bicycle named 'Silver' in IT. I never did the
"Hi-yo Silver Away" thingy though. I woulda been laughed at.

I bought the bike from my sister Lois for fifty cents. The
bike did not have a front tire. It did not have a paint job.
In fact it was rusty. I cleaned the rust off and painted
the bike with some of dad's Aluminum paint, That is how
it came to be Silver. If I had black paint I would not have
named it Silver. It woulda been 'Black Beauty.'

I finally got Silver on the road. The wheel bearings
were in poor shape causing a lot of wobble. The chain fell
of frequently. Some of the other boys in our gang helped
fix Silver. Soon Silver hung together pretty well, became
reliable.

One day I was riding Silver hell bent for leather down
Main Street. I saw my true love of the minute, Mary Lou.
I waved at her, riding hands free, showing off. Unfortunatly
I did not see the stop sign which hit my face, knocked me
butt over tea kettle. Silver kept going, I did not.

1. I didn't have a name for mine
but the first bike I got was one of those with the banana seat and the bar (can't remember what to call it) in the back. Man, I was cool. I got all the imaginary chicks. Put some baseball cards in the spokes, and you're a god!

2. in our family the girls didn't have bikes
daddy thought it was not "lady like" I guess , but my brother David, had one

Where we lived there was a wooden bridge we called the rattley bridge because it made a racket when you drove across it . The rattley bridge was down a little hill from where we lived .
One day I decided I was going to ride Davids bike across the bridge. I still have rust from the railing of that ole rattley bridge under my right eye People just think it is a freckle or something , but I KNOW what it is
