69. You have to have a good sense of pitch because there are no frets

and it helps if you don't have fat fingers like mine. The only reason I'm even capable of playing is because I spent years and years practicing. I've only seen one other violinist with fingers as fat as mine, and at least he has the advantage of having LONG fingers too, so he can reach easier than I can.

But yeah, violin's small enough that fat fingers get in the way. I literally have to move one finger out of the way to be able to fit the next one down most of the time. Because the space between the two notes I have to play is smaller than the width of my fingers. 'Tis quite cumbersome.

If my fingers were long enough I'd have switched to cello or something.

You need small hands and long skinny fingers to play the fiddle. Fortunately I have those.

The famous Itzy Perlman has fat fingers. But he started awfully young!
