Does anyone here do GeoCaching?
http://www.geocaching.com/

My dh is really interested in doing this. Evidentally there are hundreds of caches hidden in our little town alone. He though it would be something fun to do with the kidlets and get them outside and exploring. I admit, it sounds pretty neat. Who doesn't love a treasure hunt?

Anyone else into this? It's the first I've heard of it.

1. I've done it with my DH.
It can get frustrating. Really. You know you're in the right place but you still can't find the treasure. But it does give you something to do while you're hiking. ;)

2. I've played with the idea
It is a cool concept. The main cool thing is the time it takes in places to get to the location. You know.. walking through the woods.. crossing whatever obstacles are in the way of getting to the coords. I think there are also city-ish spots as well.

I'd say go for it. Don your boots and long sleeves then set off for adventure.

although it's been months since I've done any.

I've done many in New England but also a few in AZ, UK and Sweden.

7. I did it with some friends and it was A BLAST! I can't explain why but it was
sooooooo exciting to find a cache. I personally found the second cache of the day and I was so chuffed. It was genius, too. It was in the knot of a tree, in a container attached with a retractible wire, so you couldn't see it. You had to stick your hand up into the tree to get it. I guess the ones in big cities have to be very cleverly hidden so people don't accidentally stumble across them.

We haven't had the money to buy a decent GPS but I really wanted to do it in Europe when we were there. Next time, hopefully.

There are caches all over the world. Even in the South Pole.

13. Garmin Rinos were the best for this a few years ago
umm.. if you can get one each for the kids too.. faghetabout it.. it will be a blast.

Sooo many learning oppurtunities. It goes along with the mindset of no matter where you go, there you are. Look up at night and we all have the same moon. yada yada :D

There are probably better handhelds now. I went with the Rino due to it's game and communication features. plus it's waterproof.

We did get outside and enjoy nature, so it wasn't all bad.

19. Found a geo-cache by accident once

Luckily, I knew what it was, so I was able to explain to the small that he couldn't keep the treasure we found.

It's fun - make sure you take a pencil (for writing your name in the cache log if they have one) and a very small trinket to seed the cache with. :D

20. GeoCaching picture
Another thread made me think of this picture. Some geocaches have no 'treasure' but require you to send in a picture and in this case we had to do some math with the distances too, to prove we were there.
