If you remember the 60s +/or 70s, 80, +/or 90s...
without thinking about it too much - what comes to your mind as big events that you immediately associate with each decade. try not to look at any other answers before you answer. And if you answer this, you will be helping me out with a work project, so thank you in advance.

13. Amy Carter
I identified with her because I was a dead ringer for her. Every time my mom and I flew into Atlanta on the way to Florida, we'd get stopped by folks wanting to know if I was Amy.

The other event that I really remember was the death of Elvis. I sobbed when I heard the news. My own dad had died earlier that January and I felt an urgent need to convey my sympathies to Lisa Marie.

30. oh, the project is really simple
tho there has been a sort of educational project for undergrads to bring recent historical moments to their attention... sort of like... things you should know that have shaped the world you live in now.

In my case, I'm doing a web project thing and I want to find what would have the most resonance with people... so, our small group isn't a statistical sample or anything, but if, say, the assassinations of the 1960s are such a vital part of people's memories who lived in that time, then that's something that would be included in some way...whether in a collage or an image map or other things.

and people who were born at diff. times would place emphasis on one thing more than another, etc.

plus, it's interesting to me to see all the stuff I've forgotten...and when it occurred.

RFK assassination, Mayberry RFD, Woodstock, the "freaky looking" Beatles, moonwalk.

70's top 40 radio, long hair. Can't remember the late 70's - everyone (including me) was stoned.

80's worst decade ever. Reagan, MTV, sucky music, just say no. Very, very boring.

29. A few of mine:
60's - Kennedy takes office /assassinated - Beatles/British Invasion - Moon Landing - Woodstock - Hippies replaced Beatniks later in the decade. Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King both assassinated.

70's - Peace signs everywhere - Gas "Wars" - (I paid 16.9 for premium during the summer of 1970). Lost a lot of great vocalists: Hendrix, Joplin, Mama Cass, Croce, and others. Kent State Shooting - Viet Nam War ended - Nixon left office - Beer can hats - "Streaking" was a popular pastime for some (or so I read somewhere.) Jimmy Carter elected - Iran takes American hostages. -
Long lines at gas stations in the East. For a while we were only allowed to purchase gas on even/odd numbered days, based on the last digit of our license plate.

80's - We lost John Lennon and Elvis.

I had 2 toddlers at that point, so the rest of my life has been a blur. :)

38. 60s - JFK, MLK, RFK assassinations.
And of course the debacle of Viet Nam.

70s - Arab oil embargo. Long lines at gas stations. Huge hikes in prices. Gas rationing. 'Odd - Even' days.

80s - Reagan fires striking air traffic controllers. This affected me personally. I was an airline pilot.
Fewer controllers = less traffic capacity = airline flight cutbacks = pilot (and others) layoffs = I'm out of a job.
Ironically, I got a low-level job at our local ATC facility, Boston Center. It was about a 60% pay cut, but kept body and soul together for 2 1/2 years until I was recalled to TWA.

90s - The Clinton impeachment. Stupidity abounded. Clinton was stupid for not keeping it in his pants. Repugs were stupid to impeach just because they had the power to do so. They knew going in that they didn't have the senate votes to convict.
Other than that, The Clinton years were better financially for me than any previous. Earning power and investments.

Good luck with the research.

51. If you can remember '60s, '70s, '80 and '90s, you weren't there...
