What a joke.

4. That's exactly what I was thinking. About the dog bed, and about fashion.
Every once in a while I'll see a news story with some footage from a fashion show and every single piece of clothing is something you'll never see out in public, in real life.

It makes me wonder -- are fashion shows like magic shows? People just go to watch something they'll never understand and/or be a part of themselves? If so, what's the point? I guess maybe to some people it's art. Oh well.

7. Or that she's recently had surgery
And has to wear that collar to keep her from licking the incision. Her legs sure don't match: maybe one is a transplant?

Does anyone take these fashion shows seriously? I'd be laughing my well-padded rear off. It's cruelty to humans to force someone to starve herself for the privilege of parading around in public wearing a ridiculous get-up like that.

out these totally avant garde productions that no one expects ordinary people to wear - they then also produce ready to wear items that are more realistic interpretations of the crazy things.

Edit to add: The real mystery here is that this is identified AS the ready to wear.

9. So my take is that either this is inacurately identfied as the ready to wear collection, OR
that some designer is going to lose the farm on this.

11. You seem to know a lot about this stuff. Thanks for checking in.
If you don't mind my asking...isn't "fashion" a completely arbitrary thing? I often hear people saying "That's 'in' this year." Well, it's only "in" because someone just decided it was and then everyone marches in lockstep to that arbitrary declaration. It's not as though there's some kind of democratic (small "d"!) convention wherein people vote on what's "in" or "out," right? :)

Obviously, I know the answer. I'm just having fun with this.

12. I only know what I learned from Project Runway.
:-)

But I think there's 2 types of "fashion": prescriptive and descriptive. In the former there are people saying what will be/should be "in". In the latter it's just observing what's "in".

Of course then there's what's cutting edge and what's mainstream and which you are identifying as "in".

16. Answer - from someone who knows a bit about fashion
You're right - who the hell would buy this outfit. But these high end couture shows are used to show just what type of styles, colors and fabrics that the designer will probably be using in the main collection he/she would sell the the general public.

Perhaps this designer will be using polkadots or pants with 2-different leg patterns. You will never see stuff like this out there in the public but more toned down versions of what he shows.

however from that picture some real fashions will be born, for instance one shoulder tops are back, as are headband, velvets, tights etc

21. On the runway, designers are showcasing their art, which is not always wearable.
It wouldn't be something they would market for RTW or custom clients.

24. It's a showpiece to grab attention and publicity.
They don't at all expect people to wear this stuff.

That said, fashion is a very small, closed world with a subculture altogether different from everyday reality.
