Poll question: Line standing etiquette...
Is it ok for somebody to stand in line for 1/2 hour, get to the service desk, only to find out they need to fill out more paperwork, step to the side, and then return to the front of the line when he/she has completed said paperwork?

2. That's SOP at the RMV/DMV
1 window in 4 must be open, while 3 clerks per shift must be either filing their nails or making a personal phone call.

3. Employees in municipal jobs often seem to have "entitlement" issues.
Or is it just my perception?

4. That's usually what the clerk tells you to do at the post office
If I want to send something by, say, certified mail, and I get up to the counter, only to find I filled out the registered mail form by mistake, the clerk gives me the form and waits on the next customer. When I'm finished, I can head to the front of the line (or be waited on by the original clerk once he/she is finished with the customer).

5. Totally okay
Definitely happens at the post office, but also , I'd say, everywhere else I've been to.

6. OK. I voted too quickly.
May I change mine to "Beer is Best"?

If I may, I'll stop calling you a poopie head.

7. It's what makes the most sense
however, not everyone agrees and usually people in line get rather annoyed and start making afuss
