1. There was a time, believe it or not, that Larry the Cable Guy
was a parody of the "redneck" personality. He would make a typical homophobic or sexist remark, and then undercut it with a subtlety that let you know that he was in on the joke and disapproved of that attitude too. I believe that's why people like Lewis Black came to his defense.

Over the years, however, I think he realized that his fan base mostly consisted of those who were not in on the joke, and he seems to have given up any pretensions to parody. It's a shame - I actually think he can be a funny guy.

21. Dude, thank you!
I thought I was hallunciating for a while. I remember when his stuff was Colbert-esque satire. I guess he realized his fan base just wasn't smart enough to get it, and decided to rake in the cash.

Ron White is actually my favorite of the Blue Collar comics. I've got a couple of his CDs and he is fucking hysterical, but I've always had a soft spot for boozy comics (I love Wanda Sykes for much the same reason).

2. He was one of my husband's favorites.
He reminded him of his father. So yes, I guess I like him. Sneer away.

BTW, he was on Ellen the other day and told the audience how nice and giving she was to up and coming comedians such as himself back in the day. It's a character he plays.

Thanks.

5. Oh, I'm not really gonna sneer at anyone.
But I simply do not find him funny at all.

9. Hi lelapin.

If the people who don't like him, or think he's not playing a character could have seen him on Ellen on Friday I think they would maybe be a bit kinder.

3. I liked him as "Mater" in "Cars"
Larry the Cable Guy and Paul Newman in the same movie... go figure.

Larry is from Nebraska, and has his own winery and micro brewery here. The poster above me is absolutely correct -- he started out as a parody, and has become part of the joke.

The "Blue Collar" commedian I really like is Ron "Tater Salad" White.

12. Same here.
He captured the Mater character very well. Interesting cast in that movie (Newman, Larry, Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shaloub, Bob Costas), but all the characters seemed to click somehow.

17. are you... ron "tater salad" white?
you've got me, you've caught the tater. this is my son, tater tot...

he cracks me up... much more so than larry does.

bill engvall and jeff foxworthy are better...

bill "spam = stuff posing as meat" engvall

jeff "single = staying intoxicated nightly, getting laid everyday" foxworthy....

larry's an acquired taste... sort of like the three stooges my mom would say...

20. Veterans Last Trip
He donated money so WWII Vets can make a trip to DC.
No need to listen to his skit to like this move.
