A fancy way of saying my FUCKING THROAT HURTS LIKE HELL! I tested negative for Strep, so antibiotics won't work. It's a viral thing. I did get Vicodin though, so I can't complain much. :P Also some god awful tasting gargle rinse that is supposed to numb my throat. I sound a bit like Lauren Bacall after smoking a carton of cigarettes at the moment. Oddly enough :sarcasm: everyone in the waiting room of Urgent Care sounded just like me.

How long do you think it is before the rest of the house gets it? We just went through the stomach bug last week. :banghead:

7. see if you can get an Rx for Viscious Lidocane

Disclaimer:

I'm an RN, and I'm not giving medical advice. I am suggesting a call to an MD to get a commonly used topical anesthetic to decrease the suffering of a sore throat. Viscious Lidocane available only with a prescription so a call to a medical professional would be in order to get this medication

Okay.

I had viral pharyngitis a few weeks ago and the MD gave me viscious lidocane. It is WONDERFUL. Oh my god. Lidocane is a topical anesthetic and the stuff they inject into you when you get dental work done to make you not hurt when they drill.

Viscious lidocane is a jelly like substance. You gargle with it and it numbs your throat. It tastes like ASS, but is cheap and really effective and you only need a small amount a few times a day. I loved it. Finally I was able to swallow and talk and breathe like a normal person!

Call your Doc and see if you can get an Rx for it. It won't make the pharyngitis go away (if it's not strep then it's viral and there's nothing you can do but treat the symptoms, anyway), but it will make it manageable!

Oh nevermind---sounds like you probably already got it based on the description in your post.

First time I gagged on it. It does help a bit though. I can't seem to get it far enough bad into my throat to get the worst spot though.

glad you were checked for strep, and SORRY its not strep! As I've said, i like strep because its so treatable.

Suggestion here about viscous lidocaine sounds good; why did we never have that for kids, when young? May suggest to daughter, who had tonsils removed but may still need some throat stuff.

I was disappointed when the test came back negative.

I do have that gargle though. I got my tonsils out when I was 21. This is the worst sore throat I've had since then (18 years later).

Unfortunately. But I have been drinking apple juice that is fortified with Vitamin C. I've also been taking zinc and vit. C tablets.
