Poll question: Best Hitchcock movie
I know, there are far more great Hitchcock films than there are options here, but which is your favorite?

1. "Vertigo" is his best.
But I also like "Rope" very much.

3. Correct
"Vertigo" is the right answer. I'll also accept "Notorious".

12. We can agree that "Torn Curtain" is one of his worst.
If not the worst.

zzzzzzzzzzz

5. No, I'm sorry
While it's a great film, the correct answer is "Vertigo". We were looking for "Vertigo".

8. I think its "The Birds"
I love birds and that movie STILL gives me the creeps when I see certain large flocks of birds.....:scared:

Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 08:11 PM by MonkeyFunk
It's one of my least favorites of those listed. That said, even the worst Hitchcock movie is better than 99% of other movies.

13. Hmm well it could also be because
We had a large black crow get into our house when I was a child, and that scared the crap out of me and my family. So maybe it has more to do with really hooking into my real life experiences....

31. "The Birds" is the only one that left me with a creepy feeling --specifically
anytime I see birds lined up on a wire. Doesn't help that now I can visit the town where it was filmed and have a deja vu.

11. Psycho
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 08:14 PM by Winebrat
I find Vertigo and The Birds incredibly slow. Psycho is closest to being a true art film -- beautiful in its mood lighting and cinematography.

And I will add on edit: NO REAR PROJECTION OR BLUE SCREEN!

15. North by Northwest
To me, this is Hitchcock's most entertaining film. Loved James Mason as Phillip Vandamm and Martin Landau was terrific as Leonard, Vandamm's henchman.

18. Notorious
Yet the single most truly disturbing scene from any of his films, for me, is the murder scene in 'Torn Curtain'. That guy took a lickin' and just kept on tickin'.

23. Funny you should mention Rebecca.....
I was watching Jane Eyre on PBS the other night, and I was struck by the similarities in the two stories: A "plain" young woman involved with a wealthy, dashing older man with serious first wife problems. Then a crazy woman burns down his fabulous mansion.

27. "Rope" is my favorite
I've only seen a handful: "Rebecca", "Rope", and "The Birds", and I like all three of them. But "Rope" is such a one-of-a-kind, awesomely creepy movie.

29. Psycho
They're all good, but Psycho is still by far the scariest. Generations are still frightened of showers, not to mention basements. The editing, pacing and acting contribute to a Perfect Storm of terror.

32. "North by Northwest" is the best AH film ever made.
Edited on Thu Feb-14-08 07:40 AM by pinniped
The crop duster sequence is classic!

I have three Hitchcock DVDs and this gets the most play.

- Rear Window
- Vertigo
- North by Northwest

33. Most of them.
Early in his career with Waltzes From Vienna and Jamaica Inn are among his worst. Late in his career with Marnie, Torn Curtain and Topaz, while not his best, have enough interesting sequences to warrant a look.

Notorious, Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds would be my top five.

34. I have to go with "Rear Window"
I gauge my favorites on how often I can watch them before getting bored with it. "Rear Window" is the only one from that pile that still makes me sit through the whole thing without getting up to switch the laundry loads. I don't want to miss a second of it.
