MS ACCESS - ACKKK ACKKK Help

I'm working on a project data base to constuct project reports that lists the machines and their components.

in a subform for the machine components, there is a field for Power(kW) - I need to get a total for the power useage by each project
and put the total on the project summary page table/form.

I have 'access for dummies' and 'advance access programming for dummies' books, guess I'm too much of a dummy to figure it out

Need more details first... is the "project summary page table/form" - what IS it? Is it the main form? Is it another table that you're filling in? More details, more details, more details.

4. ok here's how I set it up

the project summary is the top level - it has it's own table, containing general info about the project (Project number as the primary key - name/contacts etc) as well as the POWER(kw) field

the machine subform contains information as to what machines will be used and is linked by the project number (primary key), the machine is linked to the component subform

the componet subform contains information on the various components each machine needs to operate and each component has a different power(kw)

Project summary, machines, and components all have their separate tables

once I've put in the information for the project. I run a query based on the project number to pull the machines and the related componets, from there it goes to a report, where each machine and its components are printed on individual pages.

the Project summary report is run from a different query and on this page I need to get the total Power(kw) - add up all the numbers in the Power(kw) from the query.

I did try to set up a query to pull all of the information into ONE query, but access kept 'blowing up' with that many fields, so I separated it into two queries - one for the machines and components, and a second one for the Project Summary

Not sure if this is going to be a problem, or at the least a twist - but these projects are works-in-progress, so machines may be changed/added/deleted through the design process

Hrm. It's been a while (4 years) since I've built anything in Access, so I might not be able to help you much.

Do you just want the data on the report, or you want to derive it into the master table?

One suggestion that helped me muddle through a LOT was to get an account on www.experts-exchange.com and make use of the forum for MSAccess. People were friendly, knew a TON of stuff, and even were willing to help me write code. Worth the $10/month, for sure.
