Having just watched "J-Men Forever", a thought occurs
I'll preface by saying that I'd never watched this odd film from the Firesign Theater's Phil Proctor and Peter Bergman until last night, but I figured that based on my love for Mystery Science Theater's riffing on crappy old movies, I'd enjoy it. And enjoy it I did.

Here's the odd thought. J-Men Forever was released 28 years ago.

At the time of J-Men Forever's release, the Republic movie serials they were parodying as having been hopelessly square, ancient even, weren't a whole lot older than that.

So yeah, I watched, and I laughed, but in retrospect I'm not sure I was laughing at the antiquity of the Republic serials being lampooned, or the antiquity of the lampooning itself.

1. Used to see it regularly in the early 80s, probably on TBS as cable was narrow then.
Our family joined the J-Men Forever cult. Wayward daughter was pretty young but would manage to stay up to catch part of it most weekends. Probably explains the wayward part.

We were in a western time zone, so we didn't have to be up as late as Atlanta residents to watch in those days.

VERY funny film and a nice spoof of Refer Madness type propaganda films from my wayward youth.

2. I think I read that it popped up often on USA Network's "Night Flight"

I only vaguely remember that series.

As for your wayward one...that'll learn ya to let yer little girl stay up late!

3. oh man, I remember Night Flight!!
It was the best. More weird shit was shown on that "show" (wasn't it like a 2 or 4 hours block of television?) than I've ever seen on a cable channel. It was very good for me to have that as teenager in a not-exciting city in the pre internet days.

4. I don't recall ambling over to USA Network often on our cable system, but...
I'm pretty sure I have an old VCR recording of Wild in the Streets that'd been aired on Night Flight.

Which is probably a pretty damn funny movie, still, if you've never seen it.

5. That kid was a night owl in the womb. No hope for early to bed.
Would rather raise 'em smart than naive anyway ;)
