I did cancel worship.
I went for a drive around 5:00 pm--a hospital run. The streets were awful. Either they were snowy and hand't been plowed, so you had to drive in (now forzen, crusty) ruts; or they were glare ice and hadn't been treated. I decided not to ask people--especially seniors--to come out in this. But, as usual here, there hasn't been a snow plow or a salt truck anywhere around. The city doesn't send trucks out until the "weather has ended". This boggles my mind. In Iowa, you'd see plows out in the middle of storms, to try and keep things under control to some degree. Here, they wait until all the snow is on the ground, or the wind has stopped blowing. And it's become windy now, so they won't do anything until morning.

Last year, the mayor was nearly voted out for mishandling a snow storm (ever hear of Michael Bilandic?). The storm hit on Friday, and the plows weren't out until Monday. Everyone was furious. His opponent was just plumb crazy, so the incumbent won. But it was close. Apparently, he doesn't think the opposition will find a sane candidate next time around.
