Let's talk about makeup!
I'm tired of my lip... color, I guess. I don't use a 'stick'... I have this stuff that's like gloss... it's one tube with the color on one end and gloss on the other end... but you have to let the color dry before putting the gloss on, so that's kind of a pain. So if anyone has any lip color that they're really happy with, please share!

Also... liquid eyeliner or pencil? I've been using the pencil and that's getting to be a pain, too. I like that you can kind of smear it around, but... eh.

Your thoughts & recommendations are appreciated. :)

3. One of those TV makeover show artists recommended gel eyeliner.
It sounded like a good idea. :)

and not as harsh as pencil. I have no idea where to find it though. You might try to Google it.

17. Smashbox makes an outstanding gel eyeliner (it's also waterproof).
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 06:34 PM by Shakespeare
I use a pencil most of the time, but I love the Smashbox liner (if you ever rim the inside of your lids, this is absolutely the stuff you need to use--allergy-free, too).

As for lipstick, my favorite is Max Factor's Lipfinity (because I actually despise lipstick, and I put this stuff on ONCE and don't have to worry about it all day). Go-to color for me is #180/Spiritual, which is a nice medium neutral. My uber-picky mom has even started using that shade ever since she borrowed mine over Christmas.

19. It sounds like you may be using something similar...
Color and gloss in two applications. But the Lipfinity won't come off until you take it off with makeup remover. It can be a little drying, but all you have to do is re-apply the gloss coat when that happens (once or twice, max).

5. Stay away from liquid liner...
if you are over 30 -- it can look very, VERY hard and retro (in a bad way). There are a few gals who can handle the look, but you have to be really working the fashion to go with it -- otherwise, not a good look. Liquid is also unforgiving if you do not have a rock-solid hand. I rarely used liquid when I did make-up -- pencil is just more flattering to a woman for an everyday look.

As for lip color, what is your hair/eye/skin coloration? If you like gloss, a tinted gloss would be a better option than what you are using now.

8. I used to use it... and my hand's pretty steady...
but working the fashion? Heh... PASS! :P

Brown, brown, olive. And I do like gloss, but I tried one that was crap... know any that aren't? :7

24. I find that you can use liquid if you use a different color than black...
I think Almay, and probably Maybelline at the drug store (most likely the higher-end makeup lines, too - but I live in the boondocks and all we have is drug store brands) have brown and gray liquid liners that, if you have a steady hand, look less harsh. I've also found Sally's Beauty Supply has blue, green, plum, and bronze, brown, black liquid liners if you want to play with color. The blue and plum aren't too gaudy, they're kind of fun, actually, and can be easily muted if you put a smoky gray shadow on your lids.

If your skin is olive, you could probably very easily handle a bronze or brown liquid liner (as well as the brighter colors), if you wanted more definition.

I have a collection of pencils, and the ones I've liked the most - in terms of smudge-ability and longevity - are definitely Chanel and Clinique. A little more costly, but very good and soft and long-lasting. I've had many of them for YEARS (since before I moved to the boonies) and love them.

I HATE gloss - always feel like I'm going to get cat hair or a bug stuck to my lips; cannot stand the sticky feel. I usually just use TerraTint - found at a health food store, in a chapstick-like tube. Moisturizing, some nice bronzy-red and/or muted pink colors, and at the end of the day you're not eating all the weird shit they put in lipstick. I've found TerraTint colors to be better than Burt's Bees, but it's the same general idea.

7. I have tried liq eye liner. I don't think I have a steady enough hand
I would like someone to rec a good non clumping inexpensive mascara though. I have some maybeline in a blue tube, but it sucks. For other stuff I'm using the bare minerals and love it.

9. I didn't know there was such a thing as non-clumping mascara.
I hate that stuff... I wipe most of the goop off the brush before applying.

I have bare minerals and it works great... but I don't like the 'all-over' feeling. So I'm back to using a creamy sort of pressed powder foundation as a cover up for blemishes & under my eyes.

15. heh, I do the same.
even the expensive stuff clumps.

As for the bare minerals, I really don't feel like I have makeup on my face. It does wonders for my eyes, which are rather dark because I haven't slept in 15 months......

16. The best cheap mascara out there is:
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 06:38 PM by PassingFair
Volume Flash by REMEL (in the RED tube)

Available at Walgreen's

I have tried THEM ALL.

I found this stuff works the best
for the least. My daughters SWIPE
my mascara all the time, so I by
HANDFULS of the stuff.

(I still use Elizabeth Arden for
my lower lashes, though...and
my 12 year old knows that I will
KILL her if she touches THAT tube,
it costs like $20! and dries out
in a month...)

On Edit:

I have been using the Bare Minerals
eye liner for about 2 weeks and I like it.
I could NEVER control liquid eyeliner and
could NEVER carry off the Cleopatra look
(I'm simply TOO white-bread). It came as
part of the eye make-up kit.

20. thanks for the info
I'll have to see if walgreens website sells it, or maybe another. My choices up here are Riteaid, walmart or the grocery store.

I really want the eye kit from bare esentials, but I'm pretty broke. I got the starter kit 'cause I had a gift certificate to a local place that sells it.
