Books and music are one thing, and quite tolerable if I don't have to go far, but I just despise shopping for clothes/shoes/nearlyanythingelse. So, so, so...weird? Annoying? Uncomfortable? Mindless? Stupid?

:argh:

So I should say I hate shopping most of the time.

I love book shopping, though. I could spend hours in a bookstore.

8. My dear WIMR!
I hate shopping too...

I do as much as I can online, or over the phone with catalogs!

I don't mind shopping for shoes in stores...

But clothing?

I get museum fatigue very quickly...

9. If I have something in mind, like a pair of shoes, or a side table,
or whatever, I don't mind. I'll look on-line first to see what's out there, and then might go shopping (or might just bail and order whatever I need online). But dragging the mall, aimlessly wandering - drives me nuts. I have pretty limited tolerance for crowds and being jostled around, though, so I don't do it frequently. I decide what I want, go get it, and get out. The process of looking at the material, trying something on, etc. -- that I kind of like. But then again, I like textiles & good design - which means I usually stay away from big chain stores - so it can be interesting to me when I do decide to go out for something. I also am not exactly flush these days, so I don't enjoy it as much - because I usually like what I can't afford. x(

10. Except books. And fabric.
Otherwise I hate doing it in person. The driving/bus, the crowds, the hovering sales staff, the cretins chatting on their cellphones. I don't know why I don't mind them at museums and other attractions, but they drive me batspit when I'm trying to decide whether these pants match that shirt.

I've gotten to the point that I buy 90% of my clothes and household stuff on line. I can take my time, there's no pressure, and my feet don't hurt. I can compare prices without having to schlep from store to store and earn the evil eye from clerks when I leave without buying anything. Oh, and the restroom's right across the hall. But I suspect my mail carrier is starting to hate me.

Now, if I can only figure out how to get groceries this way....

14. *eeeeeeeee!*
You know, people sometimes GIVE me shoes & boots? It's like they see my torn-up sneakers and they feel sorry for me. I don't feel like I do "waif" really well; I'm 38. My own boss and my other own next-door neighbor were like, "Oh, HERE. I thought you could use these".

I do. I love the shoes and boots. I also go to the thrift shop for jeans because they've already been stretched out. I don't know if you've ever done the "horizontal bop" with a pair of jeans, but it's not pretty.:D

I know people who can shop for one item all day, going to five or six stores for a shower curtain or something. AGH! I'm too impatient for that. If I don't find what I want at the first store, I buy the best thing I can find at the second store. I'm a dream wife.

are particularly creepy. I'm convinced that subliminal messages, toxic fumes, or SOMETHING weird is going on at most shopping malls. I want to leave them almost as soon as I get inside.

Online shopping is a god-send for me.

I can't stand it - any shopping, even for groceries. I used to really like going to record stores and book stores, but not anymore. I guess the one exception may be for guitars and other instruments - that is SOMETIMES ok, but usually those shops are mind-numbing, and deafening if you're in a place that sells electric guitars on a weekend.... 10 teenagers all playing their most awesome metallica licks through a marshall stack.... ugh.

43. If I were a man in this day and age
I'd be in drag 24/7. Modern men's clothes are so...boring. Uninspired. Say what you will about Ye Olden Days, but dudes knew how to dress back then. Baroque's my favorite fashion period, followed closely by the Victorian era. My theory is that men's fashion is so boring today because people are still embarrassed about that whole Rococo thing. :P

...I mean really that was some serious pouf-ery.

47. I don't mind boring.
But they've become boring, ugly, and nonfunctional.

The main advantage to being a guy is that we have pockets so we don't need purses. Then all of a sudden they're expecting us to wear tight pants with practially no pockets. WTF?

And to top it off, I didn't own a car for the first 5 years of my adult life. I walked EVERYWHERE. And right when I finally got a car I ended up getting a job at a warehouse. Where I lifted heavy stuff. And I was smart and lifted with my legs. So I've actually got some MUSCLE there. My legs can't FIT into those tight jeans. 99% of jeans manufacturers just DON'T make them in such a way that will fit me. If the waist is the right size, I can't pull them up past my thighs. And if the thighs are big enough, they assume anyone with thighs that big will be obese, so the waist is far too big for me.

Old Navy is the only place I've found that has actual loose-cut jeans that work for me. I hate that store. All of their clothes are hideous. Their ads are some of the most annoying ones I've ever seen. And yet I have to shop there... because nothing else works for me.

:grr:

I should become a fashion designer, seriously.

40. Amen
I can waste time browsing used book and music stores forever, though, without buying much of anything or even anything at all. But grocery shopping is just a hassle, although I actually kind of enjoy accompanying others on their grocery trips; I'm not sure why that is. And shoes and clothes shopping I completely dread, because nothing ever fits me like I think I should and I hate trying things on anyway. But unless I'm working in a job with a stricter dress code, I'm usually just going to go the t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes (and even baseball cap if I can get away with it!) route anyway.

I've got a mind to give up living,
And go shopping instead
Pick me up a tombstone,
And be pronounced dead
