My family has been adopted, and it feels good.
Some of you may remember me writing about my daughter's boss and his wife, and how royally they treated her, and how thoughtfully. Over time, they also took to looking after my son, taking him down to Boston to see the Blue Man Group, taking him to school on cold days and picking him up from track meets when my car was in the shop, or I was sick. This Christmas with the husband gone, presents under the tree were few, but a number of them were from this dear couple, who saw to it that my daughter and my two sons were not disappointed by our new *frugal* situation. Now, for the last few months, I have been getting regular emails from the gentleman and his wife, offering supportive words and advice, and reassurance of their presence should any of us have any need of them. Then tonight, there was a knock on the door and Mr. Boss was there, with bus tickets for me. He had discovered I was bussing down to Boston tomorrow, and he took it upon himself to offer me some that he and his wife had had around the house. Why should I have to pay for tickets that he was never going to use? he said. I was overwhelmed and gave him a big hug. I'm still overwhelmed, hours later.

P.S. This couple, they are Republicans. I need to remember not to generalize.

6. I may not deserve it, but my kids do and it's my kids who are being
seriously impacted. Tonight, little H saw the Boss for the first time since Christmas and said to him, so sincerely, "Thank you very much for the Christmas Present, S. I love Lego!" I had already said the thank-yous, but you see, the kids are noticing.

32. it is important to give back to others
it's a pass-it-on kind of thing. Political persuasion has nothing to do with it.

7. I can't tell you the half of it, SeattleGirl.
When I first found out I might have to leave the house, they offered to take in my daughter so she wouldn't have to switch highschools during her senior year. The offer still stands. They are angels.

9. I'm very, very lucky sometimes.
The Boss has told me that he enjoys having political discussions with my daughter, but that she will never sway him. I tell him: don't bet on it.

18. Truly caring people.
I am glad for you and your family. What a nice and generous couple. I know some very good republicans who are kool-aid drinking neocons but people frustrated by where their party has gone. We have wonderful little "arguments" about politics. I still think they are closet Democrats.

Again, I am happy that your daughter has an understanding and caring boss who is willing to share the good fortune his family has.

which makes the rest of your post not worth reading.

27. Dogs ?
Ya..pass judgment on what I "equating" ...without even reading my post ...Jeeeesh.

You are probably a good liberal who pays his taxes and respects the constitution...someone who should know better than to associate with people who hate our constitution and liberal ways.

You cannot respect the constitution and at the same time show respect to the people who are trashing it and still call yourself a principled person.

31. Then I do not call myself a principled person
because I do not despise people merely because they differ ideologically from me. As much as I respect the Constitution, it will not inspire hatred or contempt in me; that cannot have been its purpose; quite the opposite.

And my friend, I read your entire brief post. My point was merely that your intro made its contents meaningless to me.

And very true that it's best not to generalize. Half of my family is die hard republicans, and they are every bit at kind and loving and generous as the other, more liberal half. I will say, however, they all hate *'s guts. Evidently none of them consider * to be a republican! :D

There are republicans in New England that make some of our democrats look conservative - ie Jim Jeffords as an example

30. happy there is help, sad that it is needed
There are some wonderful folk out there who happen to be republican.
A number of years ago, my then wife and i attended a rather conservative church.
When my wife developed leukemia late in her pregnancy, these very conservative christians went WAY
out of their way to help. For the 2 and a half years my wife survived and after as I was the widower with a very young son, they were there.

Yes some republicans are wonderful giving people, if only there were more of them....
