CLEARWATER - If anyone was "lovin' it!" at the McDonald's that Jean Merola visited Thursday evening, it certainly wasn't her.

The 75-year-old grandmother of eight was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused a police officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window.

<snip>
This cop is someone that needs to be thinned from the herd.

1. Wow - she really had a bad fucking attitude.

I was sympathizing with her for a moment, until I got to reading further down.

Clearly this escalated further than it should have, but I don't think we can offer her total innocence in this incident.

And Mr. Cop needs some retraining.

2. She called him that after he arrested her
I'm sorry that her human personality offended you.

9. From my reading of the article
she called him those names after he asked her to move, not after he arrested her.

Still, the cop was a jerk.

16. That's not how I read it - sounds like she said it before the arrest.

And by her own words a bit later, she said it was the honking that made her accost him verbally. Had it been the arrest, I'm sure she would have said that.

5. Clearwater is a bead of sweat running from the armpit of Florida,
but if you're ever in Clearwater, get some cooters!

6. Actually, this might be tied to that. Their Police department is either Scientology...
or is on the take from the church, and they don't care what they do. It's like a little dictatorship.

8. It's not scientology. The cop tried to have her committed for psychiatric observation.

7. I wonder if it's time her grandkids try to stop her from driving.
My 92 yr old father in law still drives on occasion and does just fine, but his judgement abilities have changed with age and he knows it. There is some driving he will not do. He has severely limited his driving and isn't afraid to ask for a ride. He once ended up at the doctor's office much longer than expected and ended up leaving so late it would be dark before he got home. He called for help to get him and his car home because he will no longer drive at night.

If that article is correct, and granny was out in the drive lane and thought she was all the way in the parking spot, and mad at anyone who asked her to move, then it's possibly time to rethink the driving thing.

That said, the policeman obviously handled it ALL WRONG.

11. Hang on there, all she wanted was french fries with no salt and Chuck Norris showed up.
I think the cop needs to lose his driving privileges.
