Juicer recipes?
I'm terrible about eating my veggies and fruit so I just got a juicer and I'm hoping to get them in that way. Ideally, I'd like to throw a day's serving of veggies and fruit into the juicer, drink it down, and be done with it! But what should I put in there to cover my bases? Any other juicer advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :hi:

1. Are all the healthy people
out exercising? ;)

I've found plenty of recipes online but I don't know enough about nutrition to know if any one of them meets minimum daily allowances.

2. Is there any way to look up nutritional information for just the fruit? :)

3. You know, that's a good idea.
Instead of focusing on juicer recipes, perhaps I should get a feel for the variety of whole veggies and fruits we should be eating and then see what I can concoct from there. Thanks for the suggestion! :yourock:

You learn to start at the beginning and let the end work itself out instead of just trying to work out the end solution. :)

5. Juicing is great...

but it is important that you get plenty of fiber in your diet too. Juicers can remove too much of that bulk that your body needs for good digestion and maintaining colon health. I always add a good portion of the fibrous bits back in to the liquid.

I use my juicer to make fruit juices, spicy vegetable drinks, and broth for soups. FWIW, here's a list of items I like to keep on hand for juicing: kale, cabbage, beets w/ tops, fresh parsley, celery, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, carrots, cucumber, garlic, apples, lemons, melon, and fresh ginger.

Other tips for you...

~Try to get organic and unwaxed veggies whenever possible.

~Add pepper, hot sauce, cayenne, even cumin to your veggie drink.

~Some softer fruits (bananas, papaya) and veggies (tomatoes) do not work well in the juicer but can be added to your juice by mixing them together in a blender.

I have a recipe for a thick and spicy vegetarian chili if you would like it.

Good Luck and good health!

:hi:

7. Thank you!
That's some great information! I got many of the items on your list today to get started but I can see that there are a few others I need. Also, I'd like to start stocking up each week at the farmer's market. And my grocery does have an organic produce section.

I'd love to see your veggie chili recipe! Thanks! :hi:

9. Chili Sin Carne
2 cups chopped onion
2 medium bell peppers, chopped
4 cloves of fresh garlic, minced
4 tablespoons olive oil

Saute onion until limp. Add pepper and garlic, fry until browned.

Several large kale leaves
1 beet, quartered
4 stalks of celery with leaves
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded (optional)

First, push folded kale leaves through juicer with celery stalks then the jalapeno pepper, and quartered beet. Add juice to sauteed onion and pepper along with...

4 fresh tomatoes, chopped
2 15 or 16 ounce cans black beans, undrained or 4 cups cooked beans with some liquid
1 can sweet corn, drained or 2 cups frozen sweet corn kernels (optional)
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste

Heat to a gentle boil then let simmer on medium-low heat for about 15 minutes.

1 bunch chopped green onion
½ bunch of fresh cilantro, chopped

Garnish with green onion and cilantro and serve with corn muffins.

***Try a Google search for "juicer recipes".

10. That sounds very good and healthy!
I appreciate you taking the time to share it!

I did do a Google search but I was hoping to find that "magic" recipe that has all of the veggies and fruits in it that I need for one day. It also helps to hear from someone who has actually made it and can say that it's a favorite.

Tomorrow I think I'll start simple with carrots, celery, and apples. :)
