Anybody ever watch "Deal or no Deal" ? I swear, I think they must give an IQ test to.....
...those applying for a chance to be a contestant. If they score over 100 ...they're sent home.
These people (who are on the show) have absolutely no sense of Odds or math or even "Gut intuition"...
..They just seem to blunder their way to winding up with the lowest amout that is (almost) possible..

Host:Would you take $400,000.00 Ma'am ??? .... or a SLIM chance at 1 million ??
Dumb-Ass Contestant..ahhh...I'll take the chance..

AAGGGGGGGGRRRGRGGGG!!!!

Perhaps I'll just get a life so I don't have to put up with this crap. :spank:

4. Remember, this is the country that will play the Lotto, but is afraid to fly.
Will get in their cars and drive for thousands of miles, but won't eat medium rare beef or will put their kids on a leash because they're afraid of someone stealing their kid.

Will go to Vegas, but won't invest in the stock market.

Will buy a new car that gets 6 mpg more than their previous, paid-for one, because gas went up 50 cents a gallon.

Will go sit out in the sun and tan for hours on end, but uses anti-bacterial soap on everything, every ten minutes.

We have a deplorable lack of numeric literacy in this country. People are just really, really, really fucking dumb when it comes to odds, statistics, and numbers in general.

19. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds
It's a better quotation IMO when the other crap is trimmed off, Ralphie. :hi:

7. I do that as well.
SallyMander tells me that I shouldn't, so in compromise, I root for them to get the million until they get an amazing deal, and always turn it down, then I start hoping for the worst.
He/she probably takes the $10 they made for their "deal" and buys one of the fancy lottery tickets with 1:20 odds of winning $500.

13. Yep
I root for them at first, unless they're loud and obnoxious. The best fails are the one where a relative (who has little to gain or lose in the matter) is egging them on to keep going and going. You know those are going to be some tense holidays afterwards.

15. I can't believe how interested I am when we watch it...
I end up yelling at the TV. So we generally just don't watch.

I kind of think it's weird how objectified the women are however.

10. I find that with most of the prime time gameshows
That "1 vs. 100" show with Bob Saget, especially. The people on that show use up all their helps/cheats in the first 10 minutes of the show, and when they decide to walk away with whatever they've accumulated, I say to myself, "I answered each and every one of the those questions correctly without needing any special help". The questions on that show aren't exactly rocket-science league, either.

Of course, the networks care about having a pretty face on their shows moreso than giving away prizes to an intelligent human being who actually deserves it.

11. I watch the show every now and again.
About a quarter of the way through most of the contestants runs I start rooting for them to pick the million dollar case. I suppose I'm just being spiteful I guess.

I was sitting around toying with the whole thing and decided that if I'm ever given the opportunity I'd walk away from the whole thing as soon as I was offered $100,000. I just want enough to pay off my student loans, credit cards, and the like. That seemed like a nice amount after taxes.

Q3JR4.

16. I can't watch it, because it causes me a hypertensive crisis.
They never listen to me when I tell them to take the deal, and they end up with a lot less.

Has anyone EVER won the million?

18. We live in a math phobia society.
Sat down and watched it once and quickly surmized the guy in the back room who offers the deal is merely averaging the remaining amounts and slightly underbidding. From a purely mathematical stand point it is better to always reject the deal and play on.

But in realistic terms, I were on I would stop and take a deal that would significantly change my standard of living/financial situation.
