Anyone ever have experience with Demodectic Mange on their dogs?
The non-contagious kind.

Our vet prescribed a benzoyl peroxide soap followed by a Mitaban dip.

He also prescribed Amoxicillin.

We've been fighting this for years - we thought it was flea dermatitis. We'd just up her fatty acid intake, give her medicated baths, and it would go away. But this time we just couldn't get it kicked.

2. Might want to ask in the pets group?
It's kinda slow but you might get more responses.

Good luck to you and your pup.

3. What breed of dog is this? Some are more susceptible than others.
I had a black lab-mix that I could not cure with any treatment recommended by a vet. I have seen other representatives from that particular gene pool that are also major sufferers.

4. It may sound ridiculous to you
but check her food. If it's full of corn, wheat, soy, etc, you might want to seriously think about changing brands to something without those ingredients...especially the corn.

We didn't have a problem with mange but one of our dogs had recurrent staph outbreaks. The only treatment SEEMED to be regular steroid shots...which I wanted to avoid. When we changed her food, the outbreaks came at longer intervals and for the last 3 or 4 years of her life she had none at all. I wish we'd changed her sooner.

Yes, we had to pay more for the food, and be more vigilant about reading ingredient lists. But the time and money saved by not having to go to the vet so often more than made up for it.

5. My pit bull had it and he had to stay at the vet's for two weeks
with some kind of gook smeared on him. It is hereditary. His son also had it.

that Ginger is 100 percent better - even after 1 day.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
