7. They are all clearly made by the same person.
Before, during and after consuming a quart of some sort of fortified wine.

:)

8. LOL
okay, but other than the influence of spirits, why do you think they're all the same?

2. 1st and 3rd look like the same person
I'm not expert but that's a very distinctive way of writing "to"

3. The 4th has similar Hs and Ts as well, although not exactly the same.

4. 1st, 3rd and 4th are possibly from the same person.
The I, f, t, are very similar in all three.

6. I'm going out on a limb and say they're all the same person
The tails are almost the same in all of them. The m's and s's are all alike except the last one which is sharper at the tip. Other than that, they seem to be from the same writer to me.

10. okay, thanks to all who played.
I appreciate the feedback. I'm trying to discern whether they are all from the same author and I'm not totally sure. however, I've contacted an expert with lots of papers from this person and scanned pix for them to compare the writing. I won't hear anything for a couple of weeks.

actually, there's only one I'm not sure of. That's #2.

reasons to think they match:

1. lower case m and n and scrunched up r's.
2. The h at end of "much" matches the h in number 4- "Patch's"
3. the lower case p has the same vertical line that goes above the round part of the "p."
4. numbers 2 and 4 were written a decade after the other two. This script is smaller on the two letters..however, autographs are more "expressive" while letters fit available space (1 is a post card.)
5. The signature for 2 and 4 has a big sort of figure 8 flourish on the end (you can't see all of it, I realize.)
6. why would anyone fake this? it was from a garage sale, but a garage sale from people that could have legitimately have an autographed copy. But maybe someone was goofing on someone else, tho I cannot imagine why.

reasons to think 2 is diff.

1. the slant of the writing in 2 leans back. this might be the angle at which the writer wrote the autograph though.
2. the t's in the three other letters are crossed with a line that is either straight or goes upward. in 2 the t in try seems very different. again, I wonder if this could be caused by an autograph sort of over the back. but don't know.
3. The capital "D" is not the same as the one in #3 "Davies'."
4. The capital S in the signatures are made differently, but the capital "B" in the sig. looks similar (like the B for Blanche.)

...There are probably more differences but these are the ones that stand out for me.

knowing this, does that change your opinion?
