I think he may have been right, because when I'm tuning instruments I can usually tell where I'm supposed to start just by listening. But that could just be familiarity with my instruments' tone. I've had the same violin for at least what... more than 10 years now? And my guitar I've had for 7 1/2.

I have to think, My C (in my head) = A on Alto.
