nice real nice
Edited on Sun Jan-06-08 04:15 PM by Rising Phoenix
my mom held up a picture of me from a few years ago, when I was anorexic, I was about 90 lbs and my clavicle was sticking out of my chest. Needless to say, I no longer look like that and just recently started Nutrisystem to lose my medication weight. But my mom holds up the picture and says, "It won't be long till you look like this again, I'm so excited!" That was my therapist would call "invalidating".

edit: not intended to dis my mom, who has her own issues and I try to cut her some slack, just needed to vent to some rational ears

1. OMG
I am so sorry to hear that you have to endure this sort of thing. Can't someone tell her, nicely, to STFU?

do you have to be around her often? one of the best things for me was when I didn't live near my stepmother - and my dad.

3. Uhm...
I don't know what to say RP

I don't want to dis your mom

I will say that "invalidating" is the lesser of many other things I can think of to call it.

9. gah
My mom does stuff similar to that with me too. Medication weight is especially annoying to lose, too, it seems. It never goes completely away.

Don't let it get to you. You can be your best at every weight.

10. I hope you have other people who can nurture you and
provide some emotional support.

I hope your mom means well, but please don't let disfunction take you off course if you're doing something that's good for you.

12. Reminds me of this Lifetime film.
It was about these teenaged girls and their mother (they all strived to be celbutard thin) .... "First one to lose 10lbs gets a new bathing suit!"

16. You look just damn fine to me, in case that means anything to you.
And so does your sister. The both of you look, to me, to be happy and well-fed.

Try to get your mom to back off on this, OK?

17. Elfrangel was unhealthy-skinny when I started dating her...
All her dad can ever talk about is how she should get back to that size again. There is such a thing as being too light for your frame.
