Dr. Phil update: Britney's parents asked him to visit, "she wanted none of it," Cedars controversy
http://www.tmz.com/2008/01/06/brit-blindsided-by-phil-hospital-acts-curiously/

TMZ has learned Dr. Phil's visit with Britney Spears was not exactly as advertised.

People on the 7th floor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center say the Doctor arrived at about 7:30 AM Saturday. We're told Britney did not invite him in; she didn't even know he was coming. Sources say it was Brit's parents who told Dr. Phil to go to the hospital. When he walked into her room, we're told, a blindsided Britney walked out -- and eventually came back.

Sources say Phil tried speaking with Spears for about 15 minutes -- not an hour as Dr. Phil's press release states --but she wanted none of it. We're told Phil was doing almost all the talking. As for walking with her to the car on her way out -- again as his release states -- we're told, if he was walking behind her, that's news to her. She absolutely was not accompanied by him.

Sources say Dr. Phil somehow convinced Brit's mom and dad to be on his show, which will tape Monday and air Tuesday (it was just moved up a day), but, as one person put it, "Based on the interaction between Dr. Phil and Britney this morning, it'll be a cold day in hell before Britney goes on his show." We're told she absolutely will not appear on the program.

Sources say Dr. Phil wants to do a television intervention, something that isn't sitting well with some of the people who have known for a while that Britney has a very serious mental condition -- likely a bipolar disorder that is now in the red zone.

TMZ contacted Cedars to find out why the hospital let a television doctor on a floor that has such fragile patients, particularly since Britney had no idea he was coming. It's especially troublesome that Cedars let Dr. Phil go uninvited to Britney's room, since she had already been discharged and presumably had a right to know if someone wanted to visit. A Cedars rep made it short and sweet, telling us "No comment."

A rep from the "Dr. Phil" show had no comment as well, other than "Dr. Phil met with Ms. Spears at family members' invitation."

1. He's a slimy ambulance cha$er who is not even a psychiatrist, a level of care
which she seems to be sorely in need of. He should just stay away, so real MDs
who have medical training can treat this very sad case of a sick young woman.

2. I'm also curious about the Cedars thing...
..."why the hospital let a television doctor on a floor that has such fragile patients, particularly since Britney had no idea he was coming..."

My guess is that whatever "gatekeeper" they had was starstruck, but come awwwwwwnnn...

8. Whomever let him in should be fired
Having had a relative in the same situation it was very strict control of who could go in and visit and how many and for how long..Our family had to rotate shifts. The only doc she should be seeing is her personal supervising doc.
My guess is our celebrity shrink may have done some severe damage to someone who is psychologically fragile.

OOOh it just makes me angry thinking about it. :grr:

4. There's nothing finer than forcing unwanted help upon someone
unless you are also doing it for ratings.

9. Oprah has zerio to do with him, and vice versa
She became appalled at what he turned into (ie showed his true colors after his contract option was picked up).

6. I don't blame her for rejecting him. Uninvited "help" from a celebrity is uncalled for.
But she is certainly in need of help. Just not national publicity about it. Jeesuz!

7. That's the smartest thing she's done since this whole debacle began
Dr. Phil is a hack and an asshole. Good for Ms. Spears for not buying into his shit.

14. It's disgusting that he was allowed to go into her room and confront her, in the state
that she's in.

His publicity-seeking stunt should be the last straw for the public in general, who have
elevated this snake oil salesman to unwarranted and unreal heights.

15. Too bad he's not a REAL psychiatrist or therapist
The ethics boards would have a field day with this: he'd probably be looking at some intervention himself (and none too soon IMHO).

Pity there's no Professional Windbag Board. No, wait - either he or Rush would probably head it.....

16. Britney is clearly not right in the head
Now, if she had kicked that phony dickhead in the balls like he deserved, then she would have demonstrated clear signs of sanity. My hopes go out to Ms. Spears for a speedy recovery, and that next time when she meets Dr. Phil, she will do what any sane person would do and let him have it.

You'd get better psychology advice from Tom Cruise than Dr. Phil.
