I got a simple MP3 player for Xmas. Where should I go to download some tunes?
Thanks in advance,

I am technically challenged. I am an old boomer and know next to nothing about Ipods and MP3 and text phones etc. I don't really want to know much more than I have to because I don't miss what I don't know about so I don't want it.

I do like the idea of carrying my favorite tunes with me and I'd like to download some New Age stuff to listen to at work.

1. I would start by just copying my CD collection to it.
its free, and a good way to learn about how the new stuff works.

3. Seconded
why does everyone think they need to download songs to put music on their mp3 players?

8. Because I don't own a lot of the songs I want to listen to.
I don't have a large CD collection. I stopped buying music when vinyl disappeared. I know sounds dumb but us old farts are like that.

2. Emusic.com has a lot of independent stuff.
I don't know about New Age stuff. They have different plans. For 9.99 a month, you can get 30 or 40 songs. I can't remember which but it amounts to only 30 cents a song or so. But it's a monthly plan. Itunes sells music for 9.99 a CD. But it is more complicated to get music from Itunes onto a player other than an Ipod. I am not sure how it's done, since I use an Ipod. Amazon has electronic downloads now too.

4. I would think twice about "Rhapsody".
Their software was so buggy I had to cancel my membership. They always seemed to be able to bill me every month but it was always 50/50 if it recognized my user-name & password. They also had issues with my "library" of music. If I finally did accomplish the sign in it would often boot me out & I would have to attempt to sign in again. I was constantly getting "network errors".

Try something else first.

5. mp3 recordings
I would record Mike Malloy or Hartman from novamradio.com and listen to them on the mp3 player. Mike Malloy is at 8pm central time. Hartman is at 11am central time.

6. iTunes isn't too difficult...
except that in some cases, the format they offer is only compatible with iPods and you'll have to download a conversion utility to put them into MP3 format (which is a nuisance). Otherwise, it's great- 99 cents per song, I feel, is a reasonable price.
