I'm feeling a smidge better about my job and myself today!
The main products of the company I work for consist of large machined metal parts for earth mover/strip mining/road building equipment. But TODAY....

I just found out that the newest likely customer will be one of Michigan's LARGEST Alternative Energy producing equipment producers.

In other words, the focus is shifting to include GREEN POWER customers (and to eventually surpass our conventional customers).

Sigh.

I feel a little less like a pollution enabling whore this morning. It's a very nice feeling.

1. That's a nice bit of news.
My clients are all advertising, marketting and public relations firms. I can understand how you feel. :(

2. you think that's bad
Throughout the 90s, I worked for one of the big health insurance companies. When I started there in the late 80s, there were a big multi-line insurance company that was very stable and very secure - people would work there for 30-40 years until they retired. However, in the early 90s, senior management decided to dump the multi-line approach and concentrate on health care...

On the plus side, they're actually pretty progressive about their hiring: Zoe Baird worked there - she was Clinton's first choice for attorney general; the current CEO is African-American; and a few years back, they were rated as a top employer for gays & lesbians.

5. Now YOU on the other hand....
you better still be doing some penance.

Seriously, feels so much better to not think of myself as a total wage whore anymore. I'm sure you feel the same about your ex-employment situation versus the present.

7. The entire insurance industry is a total scam.
:(

At least health insurance, if the companies are honest and ethical, has the potential to do some good.

Not that any of them bother to live up to that potential. They just use it for feel-good marketting campaigns, which, unfortunately, brings us full circle to my industry. :(

8. honest & ethical health insurance?
isn't that an oxymoron? They do some good, but a lot of it is outweighed by the BS. And, a lot of the "good" that they do could also be done under a single-payer universal health care plan.

3. We don't hold it against you...
We won't even make you hang out in the back yard or eat in the basement.

He said, self-righteously.

6. HEY I like basements!
The fact that the house I'm in right now hasn't got much of one and a low ceiling is a definite negative in my book.
