28. Some UCCs use the term "Congregational", so look for that.
But not all Congregational churches are UCC. It's very confusing.

7. I have a ton of clothing I don't or can't wear anymore
that's in near perfect shape. I'd love to donate it, but they have to come and pick it up from me, and I don't want to donate to the Salvation Army for the same reason you wouldn't.
:(

I am also giving away a ton of household stuff I'll never be able to use again. It's time to become a minimalist. But the same situation applies. Who can come and take it that doesn't actively look down their noses at people like me?

11. Tons of candles, candle holders, ceremonial stuff from
back when I was studying mythology and stuff with wiccans, a Pentax manual camera and lens, picture frames, and probably half the other stuff I own when I can finally sit down and sort through it all.

I'm going to end up moving far away into a much smaller place at some point, so I need to start preparing now by getting rid of everything I won't want to move.

After I pear down my stuff would you be interested in some bookcases? I have nine 6' tall, 3' wide bookcases, 6 of them with glass front doors. They're Ikea, but they're in good shape. And I have 6 matching cabinets that are half height with wooden door.

I books stacked 2 rows deep on my book cases, all well cared for and in great shape. I should pack up most of them and see if RetroLounge would be interested in a gift of some used books. :)

16. If you offer to donate, why would "sin" come up?
If the church operates a non-cash charity, they would probably be glad to get sweaters or canned food. No questions asked.

What's the big sin, anyway? Screwing up the curve on those university exams? Yep, anyone who gets all "A"'s is doomed to eternal hellfire, damnation, and frat parties.

and i certainly wont help causes that work against me.

why i wont buy cd's of homophobes or why i wont shop at places that are evil.

At least, around here there are. The one in town here is secular, gets govt money and donations.

33. Oh, I know. My church is "open and affirming", and we have a bunch of glb
members. My denomination has been ordaining gays since 1972, while most are still arguing about it now. I'm the only clergy person in town who'll do g/l weddings.

So, seriously, look for a UCC or UU church. In NYC, a lot of Episcopal churches are good on the issue, too.

32. Just a thought
the organization doing the collecting is not benefitting from your donation... so donate it ANYWHERE.

What's important is that needy people will be getting assistance. Chances are, most of them don't give a rat's ass about your sexual orientation.

Be the bigger person. Just give.

why would i want to donate to the catholic church when i can to the episcopalian church? no matter how i donate it still goes to the poor.

if you think that's better than helping people who are in need.. then... wow.

will i, if thats my only option, yes.

40. You didn't indicate that you were going to make the effort
So I hardly think I was being ridiculous about anything.

I think it's ridiculous to let ANYONE do without when you have the power to do something about it.

You don't want to be treated that way... why treat others that way?

i will let this stuff sit

all i said was that i am lazy and thats why i picked churches in the first place, since there are so many here

your inferences are incorrect.

No sermons. Helps raise money for vets, and provides affordable clothing for everybody. Your local grocery store probably has a cart for donations to the local food bank.
