I am sick of freezing rain!!
My youth group has been canceled two Saturday nights in a row. We've invited the Episcopalians to join us--we both have small groups of kids--and we keep canceling. I'd like to get this off the ground. We're trying again next week.

So, Midwesterners, expect freezing rain next Saturday. And every Saturday thereafter. :banghead:

1. We're getting snowed on AGAIN tonight
We've had close to a foot in the past 7-10 days. Some freezing rain might be kind of nice, for a change

2. I'd prefer snow. We don't cancel absolutely everything
for snow.

3. The only problem is Snow Emergencies
where you can't park on the street because of the plowing, and you get towed and have to pay a couple hundred bucks to get your car back. We've had two Snow Emergencies in the past week, and it screws everything up.

5. The town where I lived in Iowa allowed no parking on the street
from mid-November through March. One of the Christmas and Thanksgiving traditions was negotiating with neighbors to let your visiting family members park in their driveway. I finally started having all my family park their cars in the church parking lot--six blocks from my house--and then shuttle them to their cars when necessary.

It was a pain in the butt, but no one got plowed in.

4. I live in South St Louis and the minyan I attend
is having their annual Hanukkah party tonight (in the suburbs). I can't go because I wont ride my scooter in this crap at night (I don't own a car and while I could take the bus it'd take a long time to get out there and it is too cold and wet). If the ground was dry I'd ride out to the suburbs but not in this crap, no, I wont risk me or my scooter's body.

So, I'm going to miss delicious latkes and good friends!

6. I'm sorry you'll be missing a good time.
I hear you're getting it worse than us. It sucks. It really does.

Happy Chanukah....anyway?

7. Thanks much mycritters2
Now if only I had one of those Star Trek type kitchens where I could order latkes and they'd come out of the wall piping hot with applesauce all over them!!!

Yes, I will be missing a good time.

Guess I'll go have some ice cream now.

I think we're getting about an inch of ice. This happened last year. The hope I have is that we get the ice now and then it'll be warm over Christmas and I can ride up to visit my family in Illinois!

8. Where in Illnois?
And why are there no latke delivery places? Pizza is so overdone.

9. We're to get up to one inch of ice/freezing rain the next 48 hours:
i've got my stock of wood, gas for the generator and ten gallons of kerosene for the auxiliary heater.

What i dont' have is a good book to read. I sure as hell hope we don't have another week long power outage as we did in 2002. The tops of 50 year old pecan trees were snapping off, it sounded like cannon fire.

12. We have a freezin rain advisory until midnight Sunday.
Which means I'll be up half the night trying to decide whether to cancel worship in the morning. I'm leaning toward "No" already. I can crawl across the alley if I have to, and other people should decide for themselves whether they feel safe coming.

But I know there are people who will try to come, who shouldn't, if I don't cancel. Did I mention I hate freezing rain?

14. Snow is OK as long as you aren't actually driving when a blizzard hits
and you have enough warning to make a milk run. If the snow shuts things down, it's a impromptu holiday for everyone.

Ice is bad. It takes out so many wires that the power takes days to come back and the trees get destroyed.

16. Thank god it's only snow here.
And last week it was mostly sleet. I can deal with that. It's the ice storms that do me in. The Gulf Coast is looking better all the time.
