1. Well it's just like an earring,
only in a different spot.

Most likely a good thing you didn't make a federal case out of it. :)

31. That's very cool...
how was she feeling about it this morning?

The best thing about piercings is if you get tired of them just stop putting jewelry in and they'll heal back up. Tattoos, not so much.

even with parental permission.

4. My daughter got a tattoo on Friday
She wanted to cover up a scar, so we acquiesced.
My son had his lip pierced but found it a pain and let it grow over. However, his ears are stretched to 1"

6. Cool!
As long as she's safe with taking care of it (alcohol or peroxide for the first week) it's all good.

Out here in Cali it seems mandatory for high schoolers.

32. NONONONONONONO!!!!!
Peroxide is NEVER to be used on puncture wounds (neither is triple antibiotic ointment), and should *not* be used anything beyond sparingly as it inhibits the healing process. Alcohol burns like a mother-fucker and dehydrates tissues, also prolonging the healing process.

A very gentle antibacterial soap and/or a sea salt soak is more than sufficient.

controversial around my house. I am festooned with scars and probably have surgeon's initials carved here and there. My Wife is Catholic. The Body is a Temple and all that.

A number of years ago my Daughter got her tongue pierced. There was no negotiation. My Wife went totally bonkers (enough for both of us, saving me the trouble). My Daughter was terribly upset (it was not her plan to cause such a reaction). She now has 3 tattoos. My don't like it but what can you do?

Tell everyone that is what it means and the word will get out and those that haven't will be leary about doing it.

25. Ugh, most piercings look hot on women. Those are hideous.
And Christ, what happens if you're having a really intense make-out session? Do you have to worry about gouging a wound into her cheek during tongue-wrestling?

who had so many piercings his nickname was "Tackle Box".

I have a 10 year old, and I'm hoping the extreme piercings are out of fashion when she starts to rebel.

20. I did you better... when I was about 6 I stuck my foot with a pitchfork
I was out in the garden with my dad trying to help him. I remember we had potatoes. Anyhow, I stuck myself with the pitchfork and then pointed to my foot so my dad would see the problem. I don't recall crying or yelling. I can barely see the two scars.

I got mine pierced a little over a year ago. My parents hated it too, but I'm 22, so they can't say much to me about it, haha.

Make sure she takes good care of it. Antibacterial liquid soap, alcohol free mouth wash, salt water rinses, and no playing with it, especially not if her hands aren't clean.

26. Just make sure she takes it out before job interviews.
Might be less of an issue depending on your location. Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Boston, or New York, it'd probably be fine.

It's all about using good judgment unless/until you get a career where your appearance doesn't matter. I'm not into piercings, but tattoos are right up my alley. However, I know better than to get any facial/forearm/ankle/lower bicep/neck work done. In this state (FL), I could expect never to be hired for anything other than the worst retail jobs unless I got really lucky.

36. I'm lucky somehow
Even though Pittsburgh can be very parochial, I've never had a problem getting a job with tattoos or piercings (I did take most of mine out when Dropkid was born, mostly for my own safety). I'm now a supervisor at a cancer research facility, and deal with lowly lab-rats and high-up mucky muck Doctor guys all day long. I've never had an issue. Maybe it's a confidence and comfort with self thing. I've noticed, people who fidget and fuss with their stuff (be it a piercing or a tattoo) don't as easily get the job.

38. The "mall goth" with $500 outfits is a bit much, but I like the goth look overall.
Our eldest had a ton of goth friends, and they were all really interesting. (They weren't the mall showpiece types)

15 is a tough age for daughters, but not as tough as 16 and 17.
