So I just did a speed test to check my network
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 07:47 PM by DainBramaged
And an interesting location for my cable company's server farm popped during the test.

Pay attention here this is unreal

Tested on: 2007.12.03 19:41 EST
Tested from: speedguide.net
Test ID: GNXT20F62Z6T
Browser/OS: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; AT&T CSM6.0; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
IP Address: (I ain't showing ya that)
Provider: dyn.optonline.net
Location: Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, US

I have now become one of the concerned that Optimum On Line is cooperating with the FUCKING Feds on sniffing their customer's data.

1. link to speedtest?
a lot of times the geo-dns lookups (yes, I made that term up) are off by quite a few towns. I'll run the test while remoted into one of my company's servers, where I know exactly what it's connecting to, and we'll see if it's accurate

2. I don't get it. What does this stuff show that shocks you?
A lot of the internet is funded by public sources. It started as a government research & data sharing tool. Is it surprising that some of data storage happens on government property?

7. Well, that's a rather critical piece of information for you to have withheld up to now.
Ignore me. Technology is a lost subject with me. I can't even program my cell phone.

9. I still use a brick, 2 year old non-folding Nokia because
when it falls off my belt, it doesn't break. No camera, low talk time between recharges, but it is far from delicate. It even got pretty wet and I let it sit for a couple of hours and fired right back up.

6. Don't worry about the military name.
Probably just a relic of DARPAnet, or where a datacenter happened to be sited a long time ago. It's SpeedGuide's best guess as to where you are, and presumably they're wrong. Geolocators often don't distinguish a user's location from that of his ISP.

Optimum may be cooperating with the feds, but I don't think that server location makes it any more likely.

8. Never showed up before in 3 years of tests, trust me
Edited on Mon Dec-03-07 08:46 PM by DainBramaged
I test my system and security on a very regular basis because of the link to my office, and the work I do with our webaite too.

I did it again from another server, same results.

10. Sure. Optimum might have just bought new capacity.
You might find that your routing looks different tomorrow, or this might be permanent, at least in traces to/from certain destinations.

11. I'll check it again from work tomorrow, we use Optimum there too.
Trust me with Picatinny Arsenal, I live in the helicopter flight line to it, and MANY MANY nights after midnight, the black helicopters fly over the lake. It is a weapons development and research facility, huge, and a great place to "install" new capacity, don't ya think???

MANY MANY MANY times during a month, we hear "testing" from there and we hear the detonations.

Situated on a 6,500-acre military installation located in the northwest corner of New Jersey, Picatinny plays a unique role in the United States' ability to wage war. There is no other comprehensive armaments facility like it in the country; it is a one-of-a-kind facility that provides virtually all of the lethal mechanisms used in Army weapon systems and those of the other military services. Picatinny indeed is a joint service armament research and development center.
