Okay, so I work in admissions for an automotive school, and part of what I do is helping students secure financial aid. Federal Title IV aid never covers the whole tuition, so if they're an independent student by the DOE's classification, we help them get private loans for the rest of it.
I have one student, who's an older Filipino guy (I mention his race because it's important), and he has a very thick accent even though his English is very good. I set up a conference call with one of our preferred lenders to get him pre-approved for a private loan, and after getting his name and email address, the agent proceeds to try selling him a student MasterCard, even going so far running a credit check! When I interjected, trying to explain that we were just trying to get an answer on the loan, the dude blatantly lied and said we couldn't do it over the phone.
I complained to both his supervisor and mine, and apparently there's been a pattern of them soliciting (even though they are NOT supposed to do that with my school), and it's mainly been students of color. God I wanted to spit nails.
