Poll question: Christmas Trees
Do you think it is a waste of our environment to cut live trees each year for this holiday?

Sorry, polls are turned off at Level 3.

2. There are too many little trees in the woods
Little trees cause big fires.

In the woods I go to, they go through the woods just cutting and chipping the little trees, and leaving the chips on site.

I figure I'm just making space for other little trees to grow into BIG trees. :)

7. Then there are the Christmas tree farms.
I figure that the acreage devoted to growing tree veal would other be used for something less environmentally friendly, but maybe I'm just making that up. :-)

9. yeah, it would be covered with McMansions -at least where I grew up it would
:puke:

I really cherish the memories I have of picking out the tree at the X-mas tree farm, it was a good living for people and it made people happy. Nothing smells as good as a real tree, and then you can compost it and grow new soil for living things.

Think of it that way.

18. My Dad had a tree farm in the 1990s.
He died in '99. My friend back East grew up on one and now manages it. What a great place to hang around.

3. I'm not sure, but I'm sure interested to know what others think.
I'd rather have a real tree, but my kids both vote for a fake one. Cause then they won't be killing a living thing, and we won't have to water it, and we can reuse it.

How cool are my kids, huh? :7

11. They are grown solely for Xmas trees.
The trees are grown just for Xmas trees. Nobody goes out to the wild to search for Xmas trees, ya know. If the farm was not growing trees it would be used for something else, either a less environmentally friendly crop or else development.

13. Our tree is plastic with fiber optic lights.
We have used it for about 10 years now. So I guess we've "saved" 10 trees from being cut.

I'm on a poll. And no, I didn't vote for myself.

I voted for plastic, which I guess is the same thing. ;)

16. I've got a tree made of white fake feathers.
The black lights I ordered for it should arrive soon. Real trees are great in other people's houses but they're not for me.

20. I live in Oregon so no, I don't think it is a waste of our environment.
:)

They grow like weeds. Plenty of rain. Plenty of land.

I have a friend that has a tree farm on their property. They lease part of the land to a tree farmer, and once the farmer has harvested their trees for the year, they invite us in to cut down a tree for free. :)

21. LOVELOVELOVE the real ones.
Never had a fake one, though my mom pulls for one every year. My dad and I manage to overrule her each time. The smell of pine needles and pitch, those first few days especially, is divine.
