"Schlong"-- the origins of the word...
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=schlong
Always wondered where that term came from...

schlong

Penis. Probably derived from the German "schlange" for snake, which, pronounced in German, must have sounded like "schlong" to native English speakers.

isn't it interesting how slang comes into being sometimes?

3. you are all wrong...
here is how it really happened...

See, there was this girl, she was really cute and I could not help but flirt with her, buy her drinks etc..

The night went very well, and as hoped she and I went upstairs to my room.

Upon seeing my "Schlong" as it is now called, and in her drunken state, she slurred the words all into one, what she was trying to say is, DAMN that shit is fat and long...

However, her drunken slur has lived on in infamy as slang...

1000% true story...swear...

4. Also, the punk group by the same name released one of my favorite albums EVER:
"Punk Side Story." A punk rock version of "West Side Story." Brilliant stuff.

7. When did schlong come...
into the English vernacular? How deeply has it penetrated into our usage?

Does it have staying power or do you think schlong is about all used up, idiomatically speaking?

8. I always thought it was Yiddish, since I first heard it on the East Coast
Yiddish is basically medieval German with Hebrew and Polish words added, all written in the Hebrew alphabet.

10. It is.

Which means that it can come from German before it became Yiddish.
