This comes from Kansas City Missouri, a deer jumps on front of a Deputy on patrol the deer and the driver missed but it's close.

1. Is this for the inner city folk who don't have deer on their roads? :^)

2. Must be. If I want to see a deer jump in front of me, all I have to do is drive

5. We've had success with putting deer whistles on the cars.
They do seem to keep the deer and other criters from running out into the road.

BTW - don't ever hit a moose. They tend to topple over and crush the car and occupants.

8. Whistles are good. We had some until the kids ripped them off the car.

12. I recommend them whenever the subject comes up because they
can look like a gimmick. They aren't 100%, but my husband noticed that when his whistles got lost after he went into a snow bank, he kept seeing deer on his commute until he replaced them.

3. I know what that looks like. I also know what deer on your hood looks like,
Edited on Tue Nov-20-07 12:50 PM by mainegreen
As well as bunny on the grill, turkey on the grill, seagull on the windshield, coyote on the grill/hood and cat on the tire.

I've also drag raced a moose as well as having been chased by a rather fat but angry Jersey up a hill in reverse.

I also killed bambi with my car. In fact I killed so many deer with my old Lumina the cops knew me as 'the deer kid'.

:P

4. Yes, but did you field dress the deer at 3AM after hitting it?
SOmeone hit a deer out in fron tof our house and broke its neck. The driver didn't want it, so the trooper gave the release to my husband and he and a buddy dressed it out.

9. Yeah. People will claim the deer if they get a chance. Not me, though. I don't like venison and
Bambi is too cute to eat anyway.

15. My mom ran over a deer once
She asked the cop what they were going to do with the corpse-she told her that she would come back to see if it was still there, but she figured someone would pick it up and get it dressed.

6. Back when we lived in Farmington, we were headed home in a great fog. Just barely could
make out a tawny colored critter coming down the side of the road at us. Thought it was a deer but the closer we got the more we realized it was too stocky to be a graceful Bambi.

Finally we came up alongside each other and it turned out to be a young steer, bawling his head off and rolling his eyes and headed for the highway. So we stopped in at the farmer's house and alerted them to the runaway. As far as I know, they got him back all right. At least, there wasn't anything on the news that night about a big to-do on Rtes2&4. LOL

10. My FIL and I saw a bobcat the other night. Luckily we did not hit it. Was a
freaky ride home. The headlights kept turning themselves off! In fact they were off when I saw the critter. I only just barely made out its silhouette from the lights of an oncoming car.

11. I've never hit a deer, and I live in heavy deer country.
I assume there's one out there with my name on it.

14. I know.
I was driving near a river where I knew to watch for 'em, when one ran right in front of me. I hit the brakes, and then looked in the rear view to see if anyone was behind me...and another deer ran right behind my car.

So far, I've had lots of that kind of luck...deer right in front of me but no contact, deer standing on the side of the road watching me go by, big herds of deer grazing in fields as I drive by. Lots of near misses. But no collisions.

I have deer whistles. People ask me if they work. All I can tell 'em is that I haven't hit any deer. Yet.
